Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
You're right Greg!
The collective knowledge and experience of TBN members is impressive to say the least.
Interesting to note that so far there are no votes for a new metal grille even though a number of members seemed to like the idea based on the previous grille mod thread.

Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
To me the worst part of a new grill is taking the front of the car apart to get the old one out and the new one in. I think it's a costly job that should be done by pros, not at home in your garage. If it was a simple job that the average guy could do in about an hour and the new parts were reasonable, I would go for it.

Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
From what I've heard, removing the front fascia/bumper cover is not that big a job. When Mr. Grille installed their first billet grille on my PCR it only took an hour or so and they did it with hand tools in my driveway. With power tools and impact wrenches, a shop could do it quicker. It's not really a quick do-it-yourself job for one person, but probably wouldn't take more than a couple of hours. Members here have done more complicated and time-consuming projects, like the engine cover mod for instance.

Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
Makes sense Ron. Everyone who votes comes back to the poll a number of times to see the other votes. Pretty logical.
And then even though there are 9,000+ TBN members, most posts are made by a relatively small fraction of them. I'd say roughly 100-200 members make 80% or more of the posts.

Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
Well, I read the grille thread & it was exhausting! I did like what the majority agreed on. It seems there is room for improvement in this area. So I would vote for what ever that was you guys decided on in the end! IF I wasn't planning a revamp of my own! I'm not sure it will ever happen because of the expense of the front facia. I would like to mod the factory grill to eliminate the positions of the fog/ running/ driving (what ever you want to call them) lights. Relocate them below the belt line (like on the Foose car) I think I can cut out the circular light section & glue in a section from another grille taken from the 5 webs directly inboard of the lights & below the centerline of the grille. I need a two trashed grilles to scavenge the filler pieces from (for starters)...anyone?!
No, I can't leave anything alone..

Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
I guess many Bird lovers would like the metal grill mod but feel that it would cost too much in money and/or work to do it.
And after all threads the SS suround becomes choice #1 because it's overseeable to do and pay (and I would black paint the plastic grill).
Shall we conclude on the shape the majority likes (for me no lower horizontal part) and start shopping?
(PS the 80/20 rule was discovered in the fifties studying American MARKETgettING in Germany: it was 20,000% of the German beer drinkers consuming 80,000% of the beer :-)Fashion fades, style remains
And my daily use car is: SAAB TURBO Coupe 1984 (fully restored, silver metalic, 200 hp with raw exhaust: WROAAAHHHH)

Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
Thanks for your comments Hans.
There's no price yet on the metal grille, so I'm not sure why people who expressed an interest on that thread haven't even voted for it and put in a price they think they'd be willing to pay.
As for the grille surround, I think the style for the top and side portions only would be preferable. The lower part would add cost and be harder to install due to the curves around the fog lights. I don't think we can 'start shopping' yet, as there's no part to buy yet. Maybe you were referring to 'shopping' the idea around to find a supplier.
The 80/20 rule is the 'Pareto' Principal, and named for the person who originated the concept. I don't think it had anything to do with 'bier.' Hoffentlich nicht.

As I started THE SMALL GRILL MODE thread over 4 years ago, mine is still on and looking like the day I put it on and for less than 15 dollars...
The only way that I would change it is for real chrome, not stainless steel, as mine still looks awesome...
This is still my best mod to my bird and get great comments on it all the time...

Re: GRILLE MOD POLL
Treken- I reread the old posts and not much changes. The 5/8 wheel molding is, as mentioned by many, a sorely missed part that should have been OEM. Mine has been on for over a year and looks like yours..but is showing road wear. I'd GLADLY buy a metal replacement...would I prefer chrome? SURE would...but even SS would be better than plastic molding.....IMO
