I prefer to know when newbies are asking questions. post count helps a lot with that.

The poll is OK if you want one but "Nothing Will Change" as far as post count. Has been this way since July 2002 and no reason to change it.

And for some people to complain about the way something is run when they use that something almost every day and that something is completely free for them to use. Well, I just don't understand that. That something could go away tomorrow and they could then find something else to use for free and complain about that I guess.

Post count shows me if I am talking to an older or newer member. Keep 'em. Anyone who rubs you the wrong way as you feel they are using numerous irrelevant (IYHO) post count as some way of expressing some misplaced sense of worth/value --IGNORE 'EM/BLOCK 'EM).

Spence your comments are very relevant. (You guys have never asked for a penny and I received a sincere thank you for a pittance of a contribution. Please post a couple of addresses to send our small contributions to. Another site I belonged to sold $50 annual memberships and it rubbed me the wrong way. Would not hurt any of us to help with a small contribution.)

That information is on the Home Page of the site. Right side of the screen and second box down from the top.

              Re: POST COUNTS

I think it's kinda neat. I don't pay all that much attention to it. I know some folks were in competition to see who reached certain milestones 1st, not sure if that's still going on. I vote keep it

Agreed (and Bill too said something similar); that's the only time it means anything to me.

                  Re: POST COUNTS

I like the post count feature, and think it does offer some indication to newer members as to which members have contributed most with their comments.

That said, the quantity of posts is not nearly as important as the quality of the posts. Some members posts are very informative and 'on topic.' Others, not so much.

I think the post count feature could even be enhanced by an informal rating as to which members are best for technical/mechanical information, history of the Thunderbird, or statistical information on production numbers, etc. TBN members could be asked for their opinions as to who has the most useful information in a given category, and that could be a big help to newer members as to whom to ask for information in a given category.

Of course it's up to TBN owners as to what features should be included or eliminated. I don't see any harm in including post counts and again, the number of posts in and of itself is no indication of any expertise on any T-Bird related topic.

I've noticed that a relatively small percentage of members tend to make the majority of the posts. Some members enjoy taking a more passive role on the site, and others enjoy contributing and posting often. I for one, don't pay much attention to post counts. In the end, it's just a number.

I voted I don't really care, but after reading eveyone's comments thus far, I could see how post counts could matter in some cases.

                      Re: POST COUNTS

It would be nice to at least consider how members feel about the post count feature, even though the owners are in no way bound by it. I think most would agree that TBN benefits from members' ideas about the site, over and above the posts themselves.
