Hands On Steering Wheel Position A Poll

I just finished reading a article on safe driving. One of the areas touched upon in the article was about "hands on" position on the steering wheel and I thought a fun poll would be to see how we all fit into the poll. Do we as a group do the suggested safe driving hands on the wheel position?

The highly recommended "Hands On" position by today's safety experts is 9 & 3 o'clock.

Long drives it's either rght hand at 4:30 or left hand at 7:45. Around town its usually right hand at 1:30. Driving through Atlacta at rush hour both hands right at 2 and left at 11 o'clock

You mean you're supposed to put your hands ON the steering wheel?
If I do, it's usually the position of 9:47 and 3:18...or maybe 3:21.

Had a friend who lost an arm in a boating accident. When he was lighting his cigarette (with matches), he used his knees on the steering wheel . . . didn't see that option so if he were responding I guess it would be "Other".

Happy Birthday Dr. Ed! In our State of Minnesota they offer 55 Alive courses that when completed you can get 10% off on car insurance...That's where we found out that the old 10 and 2 were wrong....have I changed??

I'm all over the map with this one. Sometimes if I'm in super spaz mode it's white knuckled both hands at 10 & 2. Traffic trying to get home from work one hand at 12. Stop & go traffic or just a laid back cruise one hand at 3 with my elbow on the console or in the summer one hand at 10 with my arm hanging out the window. And then on a long boring interstate kinda trip I'll grab the wheel at 6 and cruise for a while

Chuck nailed it, except for when I use both hands to control a barbecue sandwich while steering with my knees.

Living in the tri-state area there are many people who love the Thunderbird and also have hearing difficulty. Therefore, there’s a lot of sign language that occurs. To acknowledge their love of the car I often drive with my knees at 5 and 7 to allow me to return the gesture of The Bird with both hands. Its really quite fascinating how many fans there are.

Living in the tri-state area there are many people who love the Thunderbird and also have hearing difficulty. Therefore, there’s a lot of sign language that occurs. To acknowledge their love of the car I often drive with my knees at 5 and 7 to allow me to return the gesture of The Bird with both hands. Its really quite fascinating how many fans there are.

This is obviously the correct answer as it is part of the Jersey driving test.

I'm with the l:30(p.m.) plan. Scares me to death when I pass folks gripping the wheel (usually white knuckled) at 10 and 2. Makes me think they just got out of a driving school class and it's one of their first drives alone. But still not as nervous as the texters and loose dogs on the back of a flatbed pickup truck going 70 mph.

In reality my left arm is usually draped over the window sill and a couple fingers on wheel at 10 o'clock. If situation requires I instinctively revert back to racing posture of left at 10 and right at 4 to better access shifter.
