    Re: Dominant Hand Poll

I'm one of the rare "Born Left Handed and not trained to be left handed people." The only thing I do reasonably well with my right hand is use a mouse, but I am equally as good mousing with my left hand.

Thanks for starting this thread and poll Marty.

I too was 'born' left-handed. Does anyone really get 'trained' to be a leftie?

I can do nothing with my right foot or hand. 100% left-handed

Ross, I think all we 'lefties' hold the knife in our right hands. Something I never really though about before.

I also noticed that I use my right thumb to 'click and drag' on my MacBook Pro. Guess I've always done it but never really paid any attention to it.

Phil, I never thought about it ,but I hold the knife in my left hand and use a mouse with my right hand.

I wanted a hand in this, so perhaps this will be of interest:

                Interesting article Richard.

Here's a link to a quick questionnaire/test referred to in the article, to determine your right or left handedness:

Most right handed people use the knife in their right hand when cutting something on their plate. I've noticed after it's cut, most Europeans use the fork that is in their left hand to eat the piece they cut, while most Americans have a tendency to put the knife down and use the fork in our right hand.

My mother is left handed when she writes and eats, but back when she bowled in a league she did that right handed. She used to also bat right handed when playing softball.

Here's an active survey, the one above is for illustrative purposes within the article.

                        Re: Dominant Hand Poll

I write on paper with only my left hand and do most other tasks right-handed. But I teach classes to co-workers, and got called out the other day by a student who asked me to make up my mind and either use my left or right hand only to write on the board. He said it was driving him nuts. I didn't even realize I was changing mid-stream. Oops!

                          Re: Dominant Hand Poll

Most people, whether dominantly right-handed or left-handed, use their non-dominant hand for some things. 'Dominance' ranges from 100% one way or the other, with many, if not most people falling somewhere under 100% either way.

I think most people would be a little surprised after checking their 'test' results. I was.

Some information linking brain plasticity with hand dominance are:

If you would like a real eye-opener of brain plasticity, a good overview is:
