  • Windblocker - do they work well?

Do the windblockers, advertised in thunderbird concepts (see link below) for $175, PLUS shipping, extremely effective and worth the price for those days we'll be lucky enough to drop the top? What's it like sitting in the cockpit, with one and without one? When the ragtop is back up, where is the windblocker stored?
psssst, no extra room in my trunk with all my golf stuff

I noticed in an 04 Mustang pamphlet, they've got some kind of mesh windblocker for their convertibles. Anyone seen or heard what that's all about?

I've got the mesh windblocker in my Camaro. Looks identical to the one for the Mustang. It works great! can really tell a difference with it than without it. Wife doesn't need to bring a hat/hair scrunchie anymore and we can actually talk and hear hear each other at highway speeds without raising our voices. I'd highly recommend it.

Does anyone make a mesh windblocker for the TBird?

I purchased one last year at my wifes request. We used it once, and it did somewhat reduce a backwind swirl. But if it is a hot day it heats up the cockpit and necessitates turning on the A/C which in my opinion defeats the purpose of top down driving. I didn't even take it to Desert Thunder, where temps were around 95 degrees.

After some experimenting my wife and I decided the best windblocker is a "cool" cap and dark sun glasses.

I'm with you on that, Roger! Minus the cap!

                Tbirdy:

I bought one off E-bay earlier this year and haven't had a chance to use it yet. Thunderbirdconcepts was selling them via auction for about $130. I don't know if they were just trying to move them or what in a slow time of the year. I would certainly check E-bay to see if they are still doing so.

We haven't taken our hardtop off yet, but as soon as we do, I'll let you know how we like ours (probably two more weeks). Basically, I took a chance at $130 but probably would not do so at $200. I figured if we didn't like ours, I could always re-sell without a great loss.

I would pay 200 for one of the mesh one's. But I will not pay 130 for that plastic one that hooks onto the seats. That's just plain stupid, I'm not putting that thing on my bird

a few thoughts here would this block the sound from your speakers? also would it block use of tray in back of seat?

Ya, I'm leaning towards not getting one for the reasons stated above, especially the strapping on to my seat headrest, nooooo way!!!
I'm a dark glasses, Red Sox or TBIRD (emporium) kind of gal, so I'll go with that!
I couldn't wait to drive it with the top down, so yesterday even though it was only 55 degrees, I put the top down for my 5 mile ride home from work. It was awesome and putting it down and up is a fast/simple task.

Sunglasses and hats work for the boh of us and besides a piece of plastic behind both seats doesn't sound very appealling.

Re: Windblocker - do they work well?

I bought mine on E-bay and used it on the last day at Desert Thunder. It worked great in my opinion. Most turbulence was eliminated. I believe because it is solid not a mesh.

I have seen other mesh shields but the occupants still wear a hat or scarf, so why bother. No hat or scarf is needed with this product. It does not obstruct the speakers or the soft top when in place, each operates normally.

Seeing it now, after I bought it, I think most of us can make our own. I got mine for $135 and Lexan is just not that expensive neither is 2 velcro straps. I am not sorry that I have the product at all. When I am alone I do not use it but when I'm with my wife and she is all dressed up for the night we both prefer her hair staying styled. At least until we get home! She is not a scarf or base ball hat wearing girl, so either put the top on or put in the Wind Blocker. I put in the Wind Blocker.

It is difficult to see when in. The lexan is transpaent and the black straps that wrap around the headrests blendsright in. You really have to be looking for it to see it, especially when moving it wont be seen.

Of course to each his/her own but for me it serves it's purpose and my wife looks great walking into the restaurant and show!

I've seen these and feel they're a complete waste of money. Come on guys. Don't choke on the silver spoon. You bought a convertible. If you have a special occassion where you don't want the wind, put the top up or the hardtop on.

                              B & B,

I bought the convertable, not my wife. It kind of just showed up one day on a truck outside my house. These devices allow you to not have to put up/on the top. They do their job and in so doing are worth the money. You just don't have to spend your money that way. I never owned a convertable before, been driving SUV's for the last 14 years, so did not know what to expect. Since I have short hair the surprise of turbulence did not bother me. My wife has hair down past her shoulders. Looking over at her with top down, I saw her fighting with her hair and the wind and thought this was good option when she comes along. We are both happy with it so it was worth for me!
