    Re: How Fast??

Up to a buck twenty-five then got cold feet not because of speed and handling but for police. The car was willing to continue up and hugged the road really well.

I love reading about all the speed demons on this board. I personally have had my bird up to 120+, more concerned about police than other issues. She was handling like a dream at that speed.

Call me a wimp, but I've never had her above 70. I didn't buy the car for performance. I've been in "Big Red" the Viper at about 170ish, though... It wasn't as much fun as I had though it would be. At that speed, the cabin is basically a tornado. If you ever want to see exactly how calm our Thunderbirds are with the top down, go ride in a Viper or some other sports car first. The difference is amazing. I have clearer conversations at 60 in a Thunderbird then I can in a Viper at 30!

I appears that MOST t-bird owners enjoy speeding!!! I feel better about myself now, because I seldom see enough T-birds on the highway to know if they are speeding or not, and I've certainly never been passed by a T-bird. Actually, I would love to be passed by a T-bird. I'd smile and give em a "tumbs-up!" Driving at higher speeds in my T-bird is always pleasurable...top up, top down, or hard top on.

Another wimp ... just don't feel the need for speed, but I love cruising in this car just the same!

              Re: How Fast??

I had the one off the showroom floor that I test drove (with 10 miles on it) up to 115mph. The salesman complained that it "smelled like it was melting" when I brought it back to the dealer It did have a bad odor. I smiled and had them order in a new one for me.

Come on Jules!! I have been up to 110-115 then backed off road way was ending. Have not taken it out of the city limits where there is long straight roads going on forever. That's where I'm going to take Julie and .

Call me crazy but the hardest thing for me to do is drive 40mph or slower. I am one of those road rage dudes for sure - although a peaceful one -- I only yell at my self -- I just don't understand how people can be in the left lane with no one or someone more than 6 car lengths in front of them not passing anyone. Get the heck out of the way and let me get my bird over 70.

Got it up to 110 last year while Brenda was dozing in the passenger seat. She roused up and realized the countryside was zipping by way too fast. I got "THE LOOK" and backed off.

Cost me $250 last week in South Carolina for exceeding the limit by 16 mph in our van. It's just not worth the money and "LOOKS" for me to be macho man anymore. Sad, but true.

Had mine up to 140+ the first month I had it. Ran out of road and police would have been comming up soon. Passed one going the other way a min. or so after I backed it down.

Sounds like we're working up a challenge for BMS and ThunderFever. Oval track or drag strip?

For all speed daemons, I highly recommend the Valentine One radar locator. I bought one last year as a birthday present for myself and it has saved me on numerous occasions. It tells you in what direction the radar guns are, how many of them there are, and gives a rough gauge of how far away they are. I went on a 3,000 mile trip last summer to Blue Mountain Lake in New York state amongst other places and had narry a close call even with the, ah, somewhat excessive speeds that we were traveling. I had one permanently wired into my Thunderbird even though I don't really speed all that much while driving her.

I've only driven the PCR a few times and those were in town short hops so never over 30....well, 35, okay so maybe 40 tops. LOL I don't dare go out on the open road with it as I have the lead foot in the family. But Pete took it up to 110 for me once on the highway. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE But heck couldn't even tell we were going that fast. lol

                                Re: How Fast??

Here in NJ there are not many places to open up. I did get up to 100 on the turnpike and backed off. Too many cops to take a chance of getting a speeding ticket. Its really not worth the risk. As long as I know I have the power to go when I need it that's cool. I prefer to try and not get any tickets.

If I had the desert that TATDC has I probably would put the pedal to the metal and see what I could do so until I drive to some place where I can do that I will have to keep my high speed at 100.

                                You speeders BE CAREFUL!!!
