      Re: Aftermarket Performance Enhancements

Before I signed on this morning I went to Power Sports' web site to order the CAI -- was down for maintenance so I'll have to wait. I really really wanted a supercharger but what I have heard with the transmission problems and there was talk about a cylinder going bad I think I may shy away from it. I also think that someone installed a nitro system in their bird.

        1. Performance Exhaust System ?
        2. Cold Air Intake System ?
        3. P.E.S. & C.A.I. ?
        4. Tornado Fuel Saver ? / CycloneFuelSaver ?

If any of the herein above items would have any real statistical preformance test, therefore a real value don't you think Ford Motor Co. would have bought the patent and the manufacturer and be selling them as an option on their cars in order to make more money ?

Most of these gadgets are mechanic's theories items. However, most of them have no credible statistical data. Stay away from them. They are nothing else than another gadget to get your money, another marketing "balony".

However, the one that takes the cake is the "Tornado Air Management System" to me it is the biggest scam there is................

        How do you spell SCAM = T O R N A D O

I've ordered the Borla's. And it wasn't for performance, didn't know anything about that...I did it for the sound. That deep throaty rumble that makes me...drool...evertime I hear it.
And I actually like baloney sandwiches.

            MacFrank,
No that isn't true that Ford would buy the patent, etc. The market is to small for these items. It is also known that a free flowing exhaust and a free flowing intake WILL IMPROVE PERFORMANCE, that gain may be insignificant in your eyes but not to others. That is why there is an aftermarket industry, and it is huge. Manufacturers decide where they will stop on optional equipment based on consumer demand and profit margin. There are scams out there so let the buyer beware. If you don't desire any of these accessories, don't buy them....but let others make their own educated decisions.

              Re: Aftermarket Performance Enhancements

If I'm not mistaken, I read that Ford went to considerable effort to reproduce the original exhaust sounds from the 55-57. Has anyone else heard this? Having said that I would like a little more rumble.

                  Frank,
You certainly are entitled to your opinion, however, you are incorrect on your statement about exhausts and intakes but you are totally correct regarding the Tornado.

I didn't hear that about the Thunderbird. I did hear that about the 2001 Bullitt Mustang. Maybe that's what you're thinking about?

This is from a review of the 2001 Bullitt Mustang:

"Nowhere is this more evident than the 1968 movie Bullitt in which Steve McQueen's Mustang GT390 growls through the streets of San Francisco to create what many critics hold to be the definitive movie car chase scene The featured engine sound holds the audience's attention, along with a faded audio track, in a 13-minute scene void of dialogue.

The 2001 Mustang Bullitt GT weaved cues from the 1968 classic.

In a modern engineering twist, 2001 Mustang Bullitt GT engineers tuned the car's 265-horsepower engine and exhaust sounds to Steve McQueen's legendary co-star."

                      Re: Aftermarket Performance Enhancements

I installed the aftermarket, performance enhancing white fuzzy dice dangling from the rear view mirror. With the top down, one does not have to divert their eyes down to the speedometer to tell if they are going really, really fast.

Like many others, I too have wondered why Ford did not make the extra effort to include these as standard equipment.

                        Gene,
You are correct about the exhaust note being "modeled" after the baby Bird's. Still glad I did the Borla though!!

If those fuzzy dice enhanced performance at all, don't you think that Ford would have bought the patent and put them on all their vehicles, particularly the long haul tractor trailers? You are wasting your money with them.....unless you get the lavendar ones, of course.

Yes, Ford spent a lot of time to make the new Birds sound like the Little Birds, not sure but I think there is something about it on one of those Ford CD's a lot of us have. I too WILL have the Borlas by the time Thunder Fever rolls around.
