Re: What's your Bird doing this Winter?

      Just wondering:
of the 31 that voted for driving in snow, sleet, ice or whatever else winter brings live in areas of the country that don't see any of those conditions. Kind of skews the poll. Just interesting statistical stuff.

      --------------------------------------------------------
If anyone votes to the last category, please post whether you see snow, sleet and ice conditions where you live. Also would be nice if the 31 votes already cast would do the same. This has really peak my curiosity but don't kill the cat (me).

Speaking of winter driving, I have a nice set of 2002 grey painted wheels for sale ($400) that have only 3,500 kms on them that would be perfect for someone who would want to put them on with winter tires maybe, or just to save your chromed ones...
        Let me know if interested...

Bruce I live about 45 miles north of St. Louis and we definitely see snow, sleet and ice. I have owned several Mustangs and drove them in the winter too. I bought the Thunderbird because I wanted something different this time. I was also attracted to the traction control on the bird as none of the Mustangs I had were equipped with that. The bird is my daily driver so it will be driven in all types of weather.

The bird gets put into storage for the winter months. I'm afraid my Whisper White might get lost in the Minnnesota winter snow. The Black Explorer with 4 wheel drive gets me any where I need to go. If its a nice day when roads are clear I may take the bird for a Sunday go to Church drive.

Ray,.. yes like everyone has been saying,... sand gravel, salt, ice snow,...poor driving conditions,.. low visibility,.. OOOOOOther drivers , etc. Not good 'cept for 3 or 4 days a month, Jan through March or so....... Rather polish in the heated garage than visit a body shop.
Sorry for the "makes too much sense commercial"!

bruce, i chose that option because there was no appropriate option for those of us who dont have icey storms. just chose the most appropriate choice. im sure most of us arent putting snow chains on our birds---are we?? :)

Re: What's your Bird doing this Winter?

Mine is stored for the winter, usually November 1st through March 15th or whenever all the salt dust is clear. I couldn't vote for "cold storage" because I keep the garage heated to about 45-50 degrees all winter. I put both the '56 and the '04 on those "car skates" and slide them to the outside walls of the garage, so I can have room to put my daily driver in between. It essentially turns a 3 car garage into a 4 car for the winter months. The garage is called a "tandem", which means it's double space deep on one side, (that wall is 42 ft. long) so the '66 sits behind the '56. I usually start the 3 "garage princesses" every 3rd weekend and let them totally warm up for about a half hour. I left the hardtop off the '04 because I didn't want the soft top to sit that long in the down postion and wrinkle the material. If there is a lot of snow on my daily driver packed underneath, I will let it sit out rather than put it in the garage and then have it melt all over the floor and add moisture/salt to the floor.

I just put mine away yesterday But NO WAY will I take it out in the winter!!!! I plan on keeping it in storage in My garage which never gets below 40 degrees, I learned the hard way with my Taurus! Sand messed up the paint on the front way to much! Anyway I plan on only taking my 05 out on nice days!!!!! She is to beautiful to look at, couldn't imaging having to take it to get it fixed, plus I dropped the insurance to storage only had to other wise I would sneak it out every now and then cause I LOVE driving it!!!

Re: What's your Bird doing this Winter?

Reading all the "real" winter oriented replies reminds me why I moved to California.

Here in NorCal, we have more rain than in the Southland, hence the hard top goes on in early November. My car is basically a daily driver. While it is true that there are many days where it would be nice to go topless, it is not for much of the day--and lazy me will just leave the hard top on. Besides, I think the Tbird looks more distinquished as a hard top. We will be gone most of March (out of the country), so that means the top will come off in early April this year.
