    Re: License plate poll

In California the space counts as a letter. You can have 2-7 characters only. Suggest you go to this website and you can check if your plate is available and will comply with their requirements. You can even order on-line at this site. Good luck. Also on a personalized plate in California you cannot have the zero. You have to use "o" in its place. My plate is a heart with R2oo2T.

      Re: License plate poll

Wow, thanks for all the feedback. And just so you know:

      1) This is my fifth ELP. I know the rules and I know the California site to see what's available. Everything I offered as a choice was an untaken combination according to the CA DMV. My last car (a white Cobra convertible) had the plate BAI SHE, the pinyin for the Chinese words that mean "White Snake." (Lady White, I called her after the Chinese legend.)

      2) A full-space does count as a letter in California, but even with seven letters you are allowed one half-space that accomplishes the same thing. So we're good there, but thanks for the warning.

      3) The file I included has the CA DMV pictures of what the plates might look like, but honestly yours look better than theirs. :-) Thanks for posting those.

      4) CA can do the following symbols: a five-pointed star, +, a heart, a hand. No < or > and even if there were you could only do one, but good thinking.

      5) Looks like QN DMNDS is winning with you guys. Although was originally partial to Q DIMNDS, I'm starting to see it better the other way. But that's good. I'll put it to some of my local friends and see what they say.

      6) For those of you who chose "none of the above..." What would you suggest?

Really, thanks for all your input and help. I love this site.

        Re: License plate poll

In California you can have 7 characters and a half space so you could still have a slight separation where you want it.

          How about:

          QUEENOF

          -or-

          QN OF

Then put graphic of a diamond suit from from a deck of cards on the end of it? I have to tell ya if I was Joe Blow on the road, I wouldn't know what any of those plates above mean.

          Good Luck on your choice!

            Re: License plate poll

I don't know if it's legal to apply something to your license plate that isn't part of the actual plate. But going on the assumption that it is, I checked the CA DMV.

QN OF S (with space for the diamond) is taken
            Q OF S is taken
            QN O S is taken
            QUEEN is taken
QUEENOF is available, but there's no room for the diamond. :-(

QN DIMNS is looking better and better...

              Re: License plate poll

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to put anything on your plate. Many people do, i.e comma's, hyphens, etc. It would probably be a fix-it ticket, much like no front plate.
I was thinking of 'queen of' with a bunch of diamonds on your license plate frame, or even have a frame made with 'diamonds' written on the bottom.
I love trying to figure out what people are trying to say. The 'dy' spelling would be the way to go. 'dim' make me see the word dim first, not die, as in diamonds.
I'm on my fourth plate... once you figure it out, you'll know.

                  Re: License plate poll

Once you've entered what you would like to have, you need to select 'next'. A new page will appear and tell you if that plate is available. You can keep going through these steps until you find what you like, then in step three you can finish your order.
                  Oh...and ARCHIE A is available.

Totally cool story on how you got the T-bird. And the merlot is appropriate for the Queen of Diamonds. I don't envy the decision on which personalized tag to use either. It's taken me 3 years to decide on what my personalized tag will be. November is the month to renew. At the earlier suggestion about checking the state's DMV for what the personalized tag looks like, I did. Kansas is due to change their personalized tag this year. However, after seeing it, I think I am going to pass. Can you imagine the following on a Thunderbird blue car?

                            Q DMNDS
                            Q DIMNDS
                            QN DMNDS
                            QN DIM

I think I like number 2 there: And I even can get a picture of what it will look like from the California DMV page, but for some reason I can't paste it in here. Oh well, it looks pretty good. I think One and Three could be construed as "Demands" rather than "Diamonds." Although I do like number three a lot.

Oddly, Q OF D was taken.

However, since this forum has the handy-dandy poll attachment, I'm going to let y'all vote on it. I'm not saying that the number one vote-getter will be it, but I still want to know what you people think.

There should be an attachment here called "plate1" that shows what each entry might look like in real life. So let me know.

                            Thanks, John
If it were mine I would go for the "Q DIMNDS" version. The more popular "QN DMNDS" looks more like "Queen Demands" and would be more suitable for one of our other members. Not mentioning any names, but here's a clue...

                            Good Luck
