    Re: Aunt Jemima

I guess I don't mind these off topic threads, a person can only talk so much about a car that has changed little over the years. It seems now we have to wait for some of these 2002 cars to begin having major problems, so we can discuss those issues. The warranties are beginning to expire, and I do suspect we might start seeing problems arise that never came up before. Every aspect of the Thunderbird has been discussed backwards and forwards, over and over again. There are even those of us who tried to figure out how to shut the doors and trunk without leaving finger prints. I have always felt like if you are unhapppy about the contents of a thread, stop complaining and stop trying to solve the problem...just stay out of the thread.
The suggestion to stop all off topic threads will never work. You can even start a thread with the intent of speaking about thunderbird related matter only, and someone pops in with some unrelated news referring you elsewhere and off topic. I guess my only complaint or even suggestion would be to stop allowing this off topic political, racial, prejudicies, war, sports, etc. to appear on the home page. All guests (remember they are prospective members) and new members who are unfamiliar with the ways to work their way quickly around to Thunderbird topics (quick links, forums, search) see when they first come into the home page is unrelated off topic threads. Today, what's on the home page? "Yankee Test, Aunt Jamima, Vet Pays Back Hanoi" ...need I say more? If there were a way possible to not have off topic threads appear on the home page, we might not have members like Bob questioning his trying to recruit a new member or Ken feeling embarrassed to have some of our sponsors reading these argumentive and off topic issues.
Hope my tossing my feelings in on this thread does not offend anyone, it is certainly not intended that way. It just seems like an easier way to keep everyone happy and make the home page appear as it should...strictly Thunderbird related.
Thanks and this is only my opinion.
    Julie

I've got a bunch of new mods, but you'll have to wait until Thunder Fever, or the pictures from Thunder Fever, to see them.

            Re: Aunt Jemima

Julie, you are correct, and Karyl, you have never been more right about anything in your life.

Let me clearify: I certainly don't mind when the subject matter is not Thunderbird centered; just how much can anyone say about a car anyway? It's when the topics invade the privacy or become offensive to a person's feelings on religion, politics, etc that I object to. No discussion among 2,000+ members from all across the country can or will remain civil with regard to these subjects ... won't happen, ever, period! Is that what makes this place entertaining? If so, anyone can PM me for some sites that will entertain you beyond your wildest imaginations!

Example: I have two good friends here that are in a pissing contest regarding Jane Fonda's actions 30 some years ago. Who cares ... is that a subject worthy of a keystroke ??? I have feelings relevant to that stupid subject, but if I expressed them here, I would surely lose one of those friends. It ain't worth it.

Off the topic of Thunderbirds ...OK fine. When they become malicious (as this one has) then self control and common tolerance should prevail or Justin should delete them quickly. I know I should have, but I have never had a post censored nor deleted in over two years. Should I expect the same from others?

AMEN, CaptainKen. Maybe your message will get through.
If everyone stops posting, these will die a natural death.

I agree with Capt. Ken and Julie. I too think the off topic things should not be on the home page. As far as these being allowed period, that's a different story. I know it didn't work when we had moderators on the site but we didn't allow some of the things that are now brought up to be brought up. We knew then as is now happening that feelings would get hurt and some might even leave the site because of what might have been said or is being said now. But it's too late for that, the cats out of the bag, the horse has ran through the open gate. I'm not sure what can be do now and I guess it's up to the Justins to decide on that. Either change things or leave them alone. We won't have these kind of topics come up without someone getting pis--d off. It's just not possible.

                  Julie,

I usually either gently grab hold of the inside door knob and swing the door shut, or use the back of my knuckles on the glass right at the top of the door.

When it comes to shutting the trunk, I grab the latch on the underside of the lid, and pull down on it with enough momentum that it shuts the trunk lid without having to push on the outside, when fingerprints are usually left behind. Of course, I'm careful not to let my finger get caught and smash or otherwise injure it!

Sorry that I got off topic. I know this had nothing to do with Aunt Jemima.

                    Re: Aunt Jemima

One reason I was drawn to this site was because it seemed to be a lot of very close friends talking about not only the cars but other things that interested them.
We talk about our pets, children, grandchildren, family issues, deaths, births, experiences, and other hobbies.
This is what we'd do if we were together in person so what's wrong with doing it here?
Even when we get together we go and see things unrelated to Tbirds (architecture, horse races, historic places).
It's easy enough to skip the threads that don't interest us. And how hard is it to realize that people are different and don't always look at things in the same way?
To keep to topic, I look at Aunt Jemima as an American woman who is symbolic of good American food and the joy of cooking. I view Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart in the same way.
Were all friends here; lets talk about all the things that friends talk about and just bypass subjects we have no interest in.
I like hearing about Karyl's work, JudgeJudy's party at her job, and I loved the picture of taflock's mom at Costco, and pictures of people's kids and pets and other cars and their artwork. I don't care if someone puts a poll on about liking or disliking someone or something. I felt a sense of comfort during the drug thread when I heard that so many others had had the same heartbreaking experiences with an addicted love one that I have had.
And it's interesting to me to hear what my fellow Tbird fanciers have to say about serious political issues and social problems even those who feel differently than I.
I want to know what everyone here thinks about everything including the silly stuff.
Now I'm going to go vote on the Jemima poll and the Fonda poll.

Please, let's not lump Betty Crocker and Aunt Jemima in with the likes of Martha Stewart!!

                      They aren't ex-cons!

That is what this site is about to me.....the personal stuff, the silly stuff, the controversial stuff...it's what makes us US...and that's what I love about this place.

Nevermind. It appears to be a thread related to racism and it is now closed. Please do not post this type of stuff here.
