Originally posted by 2K2BIRD View PostThe news is better today. After a rough 24 - 36 hours, Rick is starting to show some signs of real improvement. He still has the vent tube just in case, but as of now he has been breathing on his own for about 10 hours. If all goes well, they will likely try to take the tube out tomorrow morning. Other encouraging signs of improvement is that he is responding to requests to open his eyes, open his mouth to brush his teeth, wiggle his toes, and raise his arms and legs. The down side are that he is running a mild fever and the EEG showed some signs of seizure activity resulting in an increase in seizure meds.
Prayers are working - so keep them going!
Many thanks from all the family .....sigpic

Rick continues to show improvement with each passing day. Based on where we were a week ago, it truly has been a miracle of thoughts, prayers and medical intervention. There's still plenty of progress to be made, so keep up the prayers. It's been awhile since I've posted an update. Rick had been improving steadily and the doctors were thinking they could remove the drain tube from his head, however, he complained of a headache and they had to open the tube back up to let the pressure off. Bottom line, he has been sleeping since Christmas. They reintubated him again to make sure his breathing remained steady and have decided to take him to surgery tomorrow to put in a permanent shunt.
Please continue to pray for him and for the medical staff to that continue to try to help. Also remember Kathy and their kids as they deal with the uncertainty.
I pray I'll be able to give you a good report after surgery tomorrow.Last edited by 2K2BIRD; Dec 27, 2017, 06:14 PM.21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !

Praying for all. We've been pretty tied up the last few weeks and I'm just now catching up on all the happenings with our Tbird friends and family.R.

If I can do this without offending, there's a great prayer Moses taught to Aaron in Numbers 6...let me pray it here for Rick and his entire family:
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you;
May the Lord life up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
We are praying.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jim and everyone else that keep Rick in your prayers.
I'm behind on updating folks. Rick's surgery to place the shunt went well, however, he is still not awake. His vitals remain normal. His eyes are open more often and for longer periods of time, but they are unfocused. He remains on the ventilator since the surgery. This morning, the doctor drew fluid out of the shunt valve. CT scans have been normal and another is scheduled for tomorrow.
Kathy continues to remain positive, but she and their daughter have lived in a hospital room for three weeks now, so they surely have to be tired.
