Re: Seattle is ready for Green Bay

It was a spectacle. Imagine how many people watching on TV changed channels and missed the finish.
Imagine how many left the stadium early because the Hawks were not playing well at all & if they listened on their way home or wherever or got home only to learn they had missed.

My Oh My what an incredible last 4 minutes.

I agree Mike. I don't think the Green Bay players will ever forget that loss. It will haunt them for years to come.

Aaron Rodgers' $ 100 Million plus salary will provide some comfort.

[QUOTE=Ray;575356]I'll never understand why the Pats feel they have to cheat to win.

I thought it was still just an accusation. Was not aware the NFL already found them in violation of rules.

Not yet, but they have in the past. From USA Today:

After the Baltimore Ravens beat the Patriots in the AFC title game following the 2012 season, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs said, "That's funny, ever since Spygate they haven't been able to win (the Super Bowl)."

The Patriots have won three titles under coach Bill Belichick, but none since 2004.

Spygate erupted in 2007 after the league found the Patriots had illegally videotaped the New York Jets' sideline defensive signals. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell fined Belichick $500,000 and fined the Patriots organization $250,000. Godell also stripped the Patriots of their first-round draft pick in 2008.

Belichick said he considered the taping legal, unless he used the information gained during the game in which the taping occurred. He said he never did that.

In 2008, a former Patriots video assistant sent the league tapes he'd made of opponents' signals. The games included the 2002 AFC Championship Game in which New England beat the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Goodell said the tapes didn't shed new light on the case and that the information was "consistent with what we disciplined the Patriots for."

At that time, former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter told ESPN: "They cheated. There should be an asterisk. They cheated, and they got caught."

ESPN also showed many fans trying to re-enter the stadium to watch the last few minutes but were unable to return. Shame on them for not having faith in their team !!!!! Hawks need to take the AIR out of the Patriots not the ball !!! Resume the DOOM !!! Go Hawks !!!!

Thanks for the history Gene. I'm aware of the past violations, I was specifically referring to Sunday's game. Although, one could assume, once a cheater always a cheater.

Re: Seattle is ready for Green Bay

Seems the controversy knows no end. A week or two ago it was either missed calls, bad calls or recalled penalties. Now they're taking air out of the football? Does that make it easier to catch? Easier to throw? Easier to kick? Less likely to fumble? And don't both teams play with the same ball? Wouldn't any advantage for one team be the same advantage for the other? Or did New England only tamper with balls when they had possession?

I'm not saying that whatever was allegedly done is okay, but really, what's next? Hidden tasers to 'shock' players into dropping the ball?

And what's with the gold cleats one player was wearing yesterday? It's not enough to wear the 'bling' off the field. Gold cleats? Is that supposed to connote some sort of superiority over other players? This gives the term 'showboating' a new twist.

Sure......players are only allowed to wear NFL approved bling and are routinely forced to wear special (and sometimes ugly) throwback uniforms so the NFL can sell fans replicas and coaches aren't allowed to wear suits any more because the NFL wants to showcase more of their stuff for fans (I guess NFL fans don't wear suits...) and you must never be seen wearing head phones from anyone but the NFL official headphone supplier and...well you get the idea.

And as for cheating...doesn't this flow from the "winning is the only thing" mentality? I doubt if the Patriots are the only team to try and steal signals...they just got caught.

Ed, James, I agree with both of you. Pro sports in general, not just football, and yes, it IS all about the money. Has been for decades. Money for the teams, the TV networks, and of course the players. Sure their pro athletes and they're entitled to good pay, but some of these players make more in a day than the average 'Joe' earns all year. Okay, there's no 'income equality' in pro sports.

Money, ratings, more money, and any tactic to get fans to part with more of their money to buy team jerseys and 'bobble head' dolls. And the owners sitting in their 'skyboxes' drinking champagne and counting their billions.

                      Oh ain't capitalism great!

Who is supposed to be loyal and to what. Is the team supposed to be loyal to a player if they can get a better player to increase their chance of winning which will increase the revenue they need to run the team and make profit? Is the player supposed to be loyal to the team when their contract is up and not take a huge increase in pay from another team? Since most pro football careers are extremely short, who wouldn't want to make the most money possible while they can. The word professional means they are being paid to do their job and the team is a business, so it is all about the money.

Of course college football is all about the money also, but the profits don't get shared nearly as well with the players.

Heck, even high school players & their families often get enticements to move to a certain school district. So in some situations it's about the money, too.

Sad to say but life is getting to be all about the $$. My home team the NDSU Bison lost their winning coach even before last years National title to Wyoming. I'd guess his one MILLION increase in salary was the culprit. Even way back in high school our coach the legendary Sid Cichy was accused of giving 'incentives' to Moorhead, MN kids to come play for him.

Been all about the money since the late 50s or 60s if I were to venture a guess. Before then I can remember stories about the jobs my favorite baseball players took during the off season.

Sounds like the game (and it is only a game after-all, mere entertainment) was influenced by UFOs.. (under-inflated football objects).
