Re: Seattle is ready for Green Bay

The Seahawks win leaves me wondering ... is this a great team that scored an unbelievable upset? OR is this just a very lucky team that managed to win despite 55 minutes of subpar play?

I guess you have to consider their overall record and give them a 'bye' for their performance during most of the Green Bay game.

I'm neither a Seahawks nor a Patriots fan. Will probably watch the Super Bowl out of curiosity only since I have no favorite. Just hope it's a competitive and close game and not a blowout like the Colts/Pats game.

We're going to have our usual Super Bowl party with our daughters, sons-in-law and grandkids with all the Super Bowl food, but we're going to watch Tom & Jerry and Roadrunner cartoons instead of the game.

Sounds like fun Ray! Be sure to include a couple of 'Three Stooges' shorts, and at least one featuring Shemp, clearly the most underrated of the Stooges.

Yeah Greg, When I lived in Lexington, Kentucky the Boosters used to complain that all they could do was give the Basketball players jobs walking horses on the horse farms. In California UCLA under Wooden got his players parts as "extras" in Movies. Finally Kentucky Basketball did what all these Coaches realize, and that is that College Ball is the NBA's Minor League. So don't expect them to stay in the minors, if they're great they're moving up to the majors. Football is the same thing.

I thought it was Moe, Larry and Curly?

Moe, Larry and Curly were the original Stooges. When Curly became to ill to continue, he was replaced by Shemp. Later, Curly Joe (DiRita) replaced Shemp and finally Joe Besser.

Incidentally, Moe, the original Curly, and Shemp were all brothers in real life; Morris, Gerry, and Samuel 'Shemp' Horowitz.

In my opinion, they are a team who was lucky to be going against an opposing coach with no imagination, creativity, or enthusiasm for the moment. I really get tired of the 'bureaucrat' coaches who are all about burying their heads in the play sheet, obsessing over the numbers and the statistics. The Packers had a 4th and 1 on the goal line, twice, and kicked two field goals. I'd fire that coach the way the Broncos fired their coach (for the same reason) in a heartbeat. You're almost in the Super Bowl, for crying out loud, quit playing 'safe'.

Yes the Hawks are a lucky team, a bunch of guys who while on the field play like a team instead of 11 individuals. Since I don't know any one of them personally I couldn't begin to say about off the field. I leave that to the likes of the press taking everything I read or hear with little or no truth behind it.

I will tell you all, that from watching them over many years, the good, the not so good & the downright ugly bad years they are always fun to watch. They are a fourth quarter team. Rarely is the game theirs to win during the 1 & 2nd quarters. Because of this single fact it will make the Super Bowl fun to watch.

Yes the Hawks are a lucky team & I feel pretty lucky to see them go to the Super Bowl 2 years in a row. Not many teams have done that. And if they win the Super Bowl 2 years in a row........WOW!

This just in, the NFL found that 11 of the 12 New England balls were under inflated by 16%. I rest my case. The cheaters should be stripped of their win as this tainted the entire result. I don't care how much they won by, we'll never know what the outcome of a fair game would have been.

The fact that their defense held the Packers to FIVE field goals was not LUCK !!!!

I am totally not a conspiracy theorist but you look at the 2 Dallas games and geez if it didn't look like Green Bay just laid down on their backs ya just gotta think about it. The 2 possessions before they drove for the tying field goal and then how all of a sudden the drive for the tying field goal stops - ya just gotta wonder. I don't think I've ever seen a defender make an interception and then dive to the ground with 10 wide open yards in front of him. It just seems very odd to me.

Re: Seattle is ready for Green Bay

There were some lucky plays for Seattle. The "Hail Mary" two-point conversion. Have you ever seen that on a two-point try? There are times when Wilson just chucks it up there and somehow his receivers make a play. I'm with Chuck, Green Bay made some bonehead decisions and plays that handed the game over to Seattle. The player that fumbled the onside kick was supposed to block, not catch. Nelson was in perfect position to catch the ball. The interception lay-down- obviously the Green Bay player thought they had it wrapped up after that and laid down to protect the ball. Green Bay's play-calling was suspect throughout the game, and it looked like they decided to be conservative and ride the defense since it was playing well and stopping Seattle. I mean c'mon, the only points Seattle had until about 4 minutes left in the game was from a fake field goal! Pathetic. A collapse of epic proportions!

Oh, and the deflated balls...what else would you expect from Belichick and his cohorts? I agree with Ray, they don't need to cheat. But some organizations revel in getting an edge on their opponents at whatever cost, just look at NASCAR. If NE wins the super bowl, they will cement their legacy, but they will always be known as cheaters and their legacy will be smeared by it.

I think I've solved the case of the deflated balls. The Colts spent the extra $5 to get the nitrogen in their balls while NE cheaped out and used plain air.
