    [QUOTE
Has Nancy ever addressed any of the issues plaguing TBird owners? Just curious][/QUOTE]

what issues are you referring to? The Retro is, depending on its build year 16-13 years old, some are driven a lot achieving over 90K + miles, some are driven frequently and some are hardly driven at all. Most are with little or no issues and judging from all my years here on TBN as well as belonging to various car clubs and reading various tech write-ups I can't agree with you.

No car is free of “issues”. All you can do is fix the problem(s) and move on.

Where do you get the parts to fix 'em? The internet doesn't help if you have an issue on a road trip!

I have had problems of one type or another with every car I've ever owned and I've had many cars since my first in 1958. Some break more often but it isn't even a brand thing as much as it is how you drive, how much you drive and where you drive. A good warranty and appropriate maintenance will keep most of you from "breaking down on a road trip".

Like any car it would depend on exactly which part you are concerned about. There are like any car, hundreds of common parts to all cars. Very special or unique cars such as the retro will require some patience and hunting but the parts can be found. Now on a road trip this may cause delays or result in changed plans but I'll bet that this doesn't happen as frequently as you imagine.

Yes I have heard of situations where an owner had to leave his car at a Ford dealer for a while to be repaired and they continued on their road trip. Yes they had a inconvenience but that is life, it happens. It can happen to any car at anytime anywhere.

              These car can be fixed.

I have a 16 year old car with 130,000 miles. I expect to have some problems but I'm ready to fix them. That's NOT a FORD problem. I have owed this car since Feb. 2002 so I know it's history and how it's been taken care of. I'm not a second or third owner and have no idea about it's history on how it was taken care of.

I had to repair my tbird on a trip to California a few years ago. The coolant reservoir must have got a crack in it and was leaking (noticed coolant on the pavement when parked for a couple minutes waiting for a parking space). We ran down to an Oreilley's and got the tank (Dorman that fits a tbird and LS). I installed in on the street with my 1/4 inch socket set, and pliers. It lasted 3500 miles, replaced it with another Dorman and it lasted another 3500 and finally got smart and put a Ford tank in there. So they can be repaired on the street if necessary.

The part of that equation that would have me concerned is the aging electronics and their availability. It takes a whole different skill set to deal with the computer electronics in modern, aging cars.
