I've got slow leaks in more than one tire and they tell me it's because my original 2002 Chrome rims are corroding inside. The Ford dealer quoted me $1000 apiece to replace with original wheels! Anyone have suggestions of affordable wheels that would look good on a 2002?

Have the corrosion/chrome flaking ground down a little with a metal grinder. They can also use a sealer on the bead area to help prevent leaking in the future.21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !

Any full time tire dealer... Tire Barn, Discount Tire, etc.... when they install tires they don't want people coming coming back every couple of weeks with low tire pressure, so they fix the problem when they put the tire on the wheel the first time. Like Paul said, they grind the flaking chrome and apply sealer to the bead.Originally posted by Greg S View PostThanks guys, how do you know what is a good tire shop?
P.S. THIS is the very reason I will never buy tires from the Ford dealer again. For the last set I bought from them on my Taurus every two weeks I would have the low tire pressure warning light come on then I would have to fill them. This went on for about two months until it was time for an oil change. I told them of the problem and they said the warning light isn't on now. I told them I just put air in them AGAIN. They tell me tire pressure drops with cooler weather (It was late summer). After waiting another hour they told me they took the tires off and put them in the water tank and didn't find any leaks. I told them I have had to add air every two weeks since they installed them. They said "Well we cant fix them if we cant find any leaks" I went to the manager and he made the service men take two off and seal the bead. About two weeks later with low pressure again I went to Tire Barn and they took the other two off, sealed the beads and forever fixed the tire problem. They did this for free on brand new tires I bought elsewhere. I've bought three sets of tires from them since that.Last edited by Quickdraw; Nov 21, 2017, 02:16 PM.Quickdraw

...yep, had this very thing happen and Discount Tire fixed the problem when new tires were installed. No more issues.
P.S. - perhaps a reputable dealer would have been a little more forthright in addressing this problem with the customer's wallet in mind rather than their own.

If you are good at surfing the internet you can find some other wheels that would also look good. There are quite a few threads on wheel changes members have made over the years. It definitely is not going to cost you thousands!Honor the sacrifices our predecessors paid for our country.
