  • The latest telephone scam

800 669-8488 phone call, no message. When I called it back, they said Sears Credit Card center. Voice recording asked for my account number or other account lookup method.
I chose other. Then, the recorded voice asked for my Social Security number. Uh-Uh.
Since I don't have a Sears card, I asked for customer service and got a live person. She asked for my Sears account number. When I said I don't have a Sears account, she said,
"Do you want me to double check?"
Sure, I said, and she then asked for my Social Security number.
    Double Uh-Uh!!

Start the fake number with a 9. Real SSNs never start with 9. This will prevent some innocent person’s number being exposed.

People preying on others without regard for how it might affect them is a sad thing. Those who specialize in taking advantage of the elderly should have something particularly nasty happen to them. That's one of my holiday wishes.

A SS# without the correct name is worthless....

I agree. If I happen to answer one of these unwanted telemarketers my first response is: yo no hablo ingles.....if they respond in Spanish my response is: ich spreche kein englisch.... If they respond my next response is: je ne parle pas anglais. By this time they are either laughing or they hang up.

A new one (really a revised version of an old one) we've been getting lately is a recorded short call that says Microsoft is monitoring our computer and says it is sending error messages then asks us to call a number to get it fixed (gives you no time to record number) then the message stops and hangs up. Doesn't even repeat the number. Harassment call is all I can figure it is.

I cannot believe all the junk calls at this rental in The Villages. The nightly news is ALL killings and bad news. Like the calls and TV I just hang up or don't watch....no human interest stories

Getting multiple live calls regarding our computer. Other family members getting them also.

Callers all sound like they're from India.

                              I just do a quick hang-up.
