Allow me to comment on this because I just faced a similar decision. I had spent a good deal of money maintaining my 2005 after using up both the first warranty which went to 2012, and then a second one which was for 3 more years. If you buy the 2002 with 8650 miles you can probably get a 5 year 75,000 mile (whichever comes first) platinum warranty from MAP. I got it on a 2004 with 28,870 miles on the clock. It cost $3000. That seems like a lot until you start paying for new Ford parts when they are available and $150/hr. labor charges. I loved my 2005, I drove it 95,000 miles between August of 2006 and November of 2017. But I knew I needed another Thunderbird for the next, however many years I'm still driving my own car. I'm realistic, I'll be 76 in 3 weeks. I feel great today but I also don't want to be shocked with a huge repair bill instead of a $200 deductible.
