  • Shifter Stuck in Park... sometimes

    It all really started with my steering column pulsing a few times when it would retract after turning the ignition to off. Then my cruise control stopped responding to my braking. After ignoring all of this, not really knowing what to do for a fix, the shifter started getting stuck in Park after initial start up. Initially the park would free itself after pumping the brake a few times. Slowly it began to take a longer time and a lot of brake pumping to get the shifter to release from Park. After some research for this issue I changed out the Brake Switch and would you know, this solved every issue I have stated here.
    If you don't know already, the brake switch is just above the brake pedal and it seriously took me longer to disconnect the battery (which you do prior to doing this) than it did to change out this switch. Contrary to some internet info, you do not have to remove any interior panels to get to the switch. It is clearly visible and simple to get to just by laying on your back beneath the steering column through the driver side door.       I broke one pumping too hard and found this was an easy fix. Thanks for bringing this back up.

        Welcome to TBN & thanks for the tips on what a faulty brake switch can cause.

        This site is full of terrific info like yours about this very unique car.

          Yeah and I think maybe somebody has already pulled all the tips and put in a book.
