  • OEM OIL FILLER TUBE & GASKET 3.9L 2002-2005 THUNDERBIRD

Has anyone removed the oil filler tube to change the gasket/o-ring? Does it 1/4-turn twist off, or how does it remove? I want to change out gasket/o-ring to eliminate oil seepage at base of tube. Thanks for any assistance! Picture posted. I stopped by Ford dealer - told that it twists off. Has anyone replaced gasket? Is it an o-ring? Anyone?

Still hoping someone can provide information about removal and replacing gasket on oil-filler neck - 2002 model: see pic (red arrow). Thanks!

Looking at the photo of the part in post 1, I would think that you turn twist the tube to align the tab with a slot and then pull it out. I have never personally needed to do this.

Do you change your own oil?
Ford wanted to replace this on my 2002 over five years ago. It looked to me like oil spilled during oil change. They were going to replace valve cover during repair. 2003-5 might be different.

Brought my 02 yellow in to have valve cover gaskets replaced as I was getting burnt oil smell when I parked in garage. Mechanic told me that was the problem but when doing the work found the cover was cracked right by the filler tube. Ford has them on back order and none could be found at junk yards so they are going to try repair if possible. Anyone else had this problem?

              if you fix it yourself?
degrease the hell out of it and try some of the new glue that takes the infra red to cure?
              idk?
