premium chrome wheel center cap question

My 2004 merlot thunderbird premium with the optional sand package has the chrome wheels, the center cap thunderbird emblems are gold instead of silver is this correct?

Your caps left the factory silver. Someone decided to paint them gold.

Thank you for all your help, I kind of figured they should be silver, now I have to decide if I want to paint them, My car is completely original down to the window sticker, Ford should of had these gold with the sand package, it looks really good.

Maybe get a set of original caps to switch out if desired.

When the silver wears off, the birds turn a sort of gold color, maybe this is what has happened.

If you like them, don't worry about originality. They only have to please one person --- you ! (well, maybe two, if you have a significant other that cares)

Remove the center cap. Now from the back of the cap you can pinch the plastic tabs on the 'bird emblem & it will pop out free of the cap Now you can paint them any color you like. ----Will

Ford should of had these gold with the sand package, it looks really good.

Actually, the interior accents are bronze with the light sand package. Maybe you should look into that color.

Just checked the centers on my PCR and the bird is gold with gold insert on wings. Can't believe i never noticed that. ( or forgot if did ) A strong possibility.

Of course wheels are 16 spoke and not chrome. Ron pays really good attention Some of us can't afford to pay much attention.

Yep, mine have lost their chrome as well and what's underneath is kind of beige. Funny, I never looked before. Guess I'll have to take Will's advice, take off the cap, pinch and remove the bird and paint it. The wheels have the white circle so maybe turquoise would look good. In passing, I met one of the original people from the PR company at the time the car was released and she told me that white circle is a retro remembrance of the white walls on the original models of yesteryear.

I think that is what you are seeing, I have several like that.
