Never scared the seller off, the item sold and EBay is just giving you another item to look at..........

The seller was contacted prior to starting this thread. He didn't seem to appreciate my comment about it being an aftermarket product after he stated it was from the 2002 model year. A foldable vinyl covered boot from 2002...... very interesting......

finally looked at this thread and the boot in question. Definitely an aftermarket boot for 2002, since the buttons show on top and it's vinyl. There were several sources back in 2002 trying to come up with an alternative to the original.

Yes Dot and they came from TBC. But $600 has to be a record unless you count in LA Phil at $1495.(out of stock)..Spence you should have bought extras..

Greg it was an ebay auction that I have been watching which ended today at 11:48 A.M. and sold for 720.00 with a starting bid of 99.00 and had a total of 36 bids and with only a 20.00 shipping charge.

I posted a few bids on the one that sold for $720.00. It would have been nice to have for $350-500, but not worth more to me. I’ll only have the top down occasionally, and will always put it up when I reach my destination for security, and to keep the interior clean. I suppose I’d use it while parked at car club events, too. Maybe I’ll find one at a reasonable price someday, but if not I sure won’t lose any sleep over it.

I paid less than that for a full custom 'Bunny Lou' boot in two color and a 17" bird emblem!

With prices in the $700 and beyond range, makes the boot a target for theft and resale. Oooh, I hate to see someone lift mine off in a parking lot or car show. Too bad unnecessary needed steps are required to protect our stuff!

Steven, that thought hadn't even crossed my mind, but it is a valid point.

Just looked at the Thunderbird of the month entries. Dang. Now I really do want a OEM boot for my 2004. They look so good with them on, especially the Cashmere version. Guess I'll have to be more aggressive the next time one shows up on eBay.

I just hope the buyer is not too upset for spending that much on an after-market product even though the seller had it listed as an original Ford product.

Just in case you're interested, here's my webpage on the OEM boots and a link on that page to see how the 02 boot was installed:
                              http://portholeauthority.com/thenewt...nter.html#boot

As I recall, Most dealers sold them for around $300 with some as high as $500 back then. ie, if the car had not been ordered with a boot. They were standard on the 02s and 03s and optional on the 04s and 05s.

Dot, thanks for giving everyone some perspective. I guess I've never actually bought one for any of the convertibles I've had. They had just always came with the car. I didn't realize they were in the $300 range.
