Apropo of absolutely nothing: When new, the Ferrari GTO sold for $18,000 in the US...

Those who bought their Retro used have a better than even chance to break even. Not a bad position to be in.

Haha...for a guy that is always talking about it's not about money sure seems of that opinion in post 25 and 27.... You can justify the value of your car straight to zero if you try hard enough. Just remember all the "motels and diners" that bring a smile to your face and road mates. That's your bag not mine and you just can't see it any other way. I have pointed out other examples to you over the years as to how some people can enjoy something without having to hardly ever use it, buy you'll never understand.

You are right about at least one thing, Ric. We don't understand each others views on many things. Doesn't make either of us "wrong", just different. I will concede that I left out two words that I should have used. I should have said, "For me, life is about more than dollar bills."

As for the vehicle in question, I was only pointing out the folly of it as an investment and the fact his method of selling it probably cost more than it was worth.

No problem Paul.......Some forum members always try to make it about money/investment etc: as a way to justify their happiness in a $5K retro. I don't know the seller or the buyer but my guess is the car was never an investment from either side. The seller could have had a dozen other cars at the same auction and just cut this one loose to make room for something else, otherwise I think there would have been a reserve on it. Any way we do agree that we often times have different view points and it doesn't mean one is right or wrong, just different.

Anyone that thinks these retro birds or any other classic for that matter is an investment is kidding themselves. Buy what you like and enjoy it and some day IF you make a couple bucks all the better.

Jim, I'm with you as I don't think these cars will ever appreciate in value. Having said that, I also have to say that I also think they are holding their value rather well. Paid $12,200 6.5 years ago. Get maybe $9k today. $3k/6 years= $500 depreciation per year and it is a really cheap ride.
                      Add in the fun factor=priceless.

There are still cars out there that are investments. The retro certainly isn't one of them though.
