I've wondered if younger people think retro birds look like "Hot Wheels" toy cars, with the glitzy chromed wheels and speedy-looking styling. I see the resemblance myself. I wonder if "Hot Wheels" ever did a retro bird? I'm from the Matchbox, Dinky Toy and Corgi generation.

No, Hot Wheels never did a retro bird. [my opinion: shame on them] The closest to Hot wheels though was Mattel's Matchbox line (Motor Trend, in yellow and red) and Maisto finally did make one that size which still can be found occasionally in black (2013) and in Thunderbird Blue (2009)

Other companies did make that or a similar size.

So share with me, what keeps you driving that incredible TBird parked in your garage?

Good to read you story, too. We have two with a combined mileage of 288,000. One sits in the garage for the most part and the other is on the road at least 3 times a week. I love getting behind the wheel and driving either one.

Even though I haven't seen my car for over a month (still waiting for part on back order), I have my memories. I love the 'exclusive' look (and merlot color) of it and the feeling I get driving it I'm in a world of my own in that small space surrounded by speakers. If it's parked outside of the garage, the neighborhood kids always check it out when walking or biking by. I'm hoping it's back together before Labor Day.

My enjoyment has doubled since we bought Baby Blue. Now I face the possibility of being able to drive a retro year around!

5bird7: thanks for sharing. Lucky you to have two.

I hope your part comes soon... Cheryl, I remember the long wait in acquiring mine. Still will be nice weather to cruise to your content.

RBIRD : Thanks for the sharing the song... love it....the freedom machine (so appropriate)........ Gotta get that song Couldn't get it to play at first but now it is stuck in my head!

Thanks for the link to the diecast models, Paul! Didn't mean to derail your thread, Lynne. This is great, hearing about the enthusiasm of other forum members for these cool cars!

Lynne, Freedom Machine was the very first song that was played on our Bird on the day we bought it. Even the salesman and the staff at Ricart Ford in Columbus thought it was the PERFECT Thunderbird song. They had never listened to the cd player yet, so we test drove IT also!

This song is me all over. Did the same things as Junior when I was a kid! Always knew I would have a Thunderbird. Worth the wait, but I wish I'd done it sooner.

RBIRD : Awesome song and great story...thanks for sharing. Now, I have this song programmed in my song list when I cruise. I'm glad you got your bird and yes they are worth the wait no matter the year!

I've owned about 10 or 12 Thunderbirds over the last 25 years. For me it's far more about the people the Thunderbird has let me meet and the friends we have made than about the car itself.

A catchy song about a Mustang.

So true... aside from the perk of driving such an awesome car... it is all about the people you meet! Thanks for the great tune Gene, the mustang is also one of my favored cars.
