  • 16 Years of ownership of a 2002 Thunderbird

This is going to be a long post so sit back and read. Back in 2001 I saw for the first time what the 2002 T-Bird was going to look like and I called Judge Judy back to our office/computer room. I told her we are getting one and she said " How Much" and I said I don't care we're getting one. At that time I was already on my 5th T-Bird starting in 1984. Well in Jan.200I I ordered our Thunderbird Blue T-Bird. In Feb. of 2002 It came in. Little did I know at the time how owning this car would change our lives forever. I followed sites about this car and we ran into a problem with one site that didn't want to have all details posted about our first event on his site. That was Thunderbird Forum.com. We found another site ran by two collage kids that had a Ford Ranger site and we ask if we could have a small section of their site for out T-Birds. They said sure, why not, within a month it turned into a T-Bird site after that known as TBN or www.ThunderNest.com. It grew and it grew and it grew.

Well after 16 years of travels with this car and making friends all over the USA , in Canada and abroad it all comes to a head. In Sept. of this year we will have had our 2002 Thunderbird in all of the lower 48 states and 3 Canadian Providence's . I'm not the first to do this but it's my car doing it. Along the way I became a co-owner of TBN along with Margaret and Charlie. It's been a long road but worth every mile.

This is what TBN is all about.

    Thanks For the Memories.

Congratulations, Spence, and all the others who have been in all the lower 48 with their cars. It's quite an accomplishment. I hope to get there one day, but I first have to get Gordon to learn how to retire. I loved it when you told Judy you were getting a T-bird and her first words were "How much?". We now know who controls the checkbook and who pays the bills. Like you and Judy, our lives have changed because of this car AND TBN with all the wonderful folks we have met along the way in our travels. I hope it never stops, but the cars are getting older so a slow down is to be expected.

Spence - thanks so much for sharing! I've only been a member/owner of a Tbird for a short while, but this forum has been so valuable in helping me fix a few things, and has calmed my nerves about the search for service and help with issues that will come along in the fulness of time. Congrats on your 48 state achievement as well as this site!

Spence: Thanks for all your efforts in building this site to what it is today. This great site has generated a wealth of information about the Retro-Birds and has been a excellent conduit to meeting wonderful friends.

Our ‘05 Medium Steel Blue is our 4th Retro we have owned and the 12th Thunderbird we have owned in 50 years of marriage. Started a couple local T-Bird chapters in 2 states and belonged to various Thunderbird national clubs over the years. NEVER before have Karen and I met so many wonderful people as we have in the ThunderbirdNest family....people we kiss and hug when we see them. Thanks to all who have made this group of T-Bird nuts prosper and grow and have put together all of the great travel events across the country! LONG LIVE THUNDERBIRDNEST!

                  Spence,

Many Thanks, to you and the owners, for putting TBN together and keeping this site running for 16 years.

We have thoroughly enjoyed driving our T-Bird and meeting all our T-Bird friends over the years, via this site.
Who would have thought that the T-Bird and TBN would lead to meeting so many great friends and travel companions?

The information on this site about our T-Birds has been invaluable in keeping our T-Bird running well for 16 years.

                  LONG LIVE THUNDERBIRDNEST!

Thanks for sharing your story Spence. I've been coming here since early 2003 when we bought our 03 MSG. I've corresponded with many fine people via the forum, PM, and email. I was 39 when I bought my Thunderbird and I'm 54 now so unfortunately I haven't had the vacation and leisure time like many of our retired members to make many events, but I did greatly enjoy Desert Thunder II here in Las Vegas in 2008.

                      Hi Spence,

Thank you for sharing your story as well as making TBN a great source of information regarding the retro Thunderbirds. I joined TBN last year when I pulled the trigger on a 2002 Thunderbird as a gift for my big FIVE-O birthday. Love the look of the retro Thunderbird when it came out in 2002, but I am glad I was able to get a nice used one 15 years later!!! I was on TBN every day last year when I joined, and I started reading all of the posts BACKWARD from 2001 to present, and it was quite exciting back then as future Thunderbird owners discussed about delivery dates of their cars and so on. I Love driving my 2002 on the weekends and hopefully for many more years to come!!!

Thanks to Spence and owners of TBN for making this site a GREAT PLACE to visit!!!

Spence, I echo the thanks for your work on this site. It is the first I go to when I log on to my computer. It is great the way it keeps the retro owners in contact. I have learned many things about our cars that I likely wouldn't get anywhere else, enjoy reading all the thread info and what folks are up to, and really like seeing all the events (maybe someday I can get to some).

I really couldn't have put any better what I was thinking myself.

                              Thank you, Spence.
