  • Thunderbird 2002 convertible latch locking parts

I have a 2002 convertible T bird, i have problems finding small parts, for the top latch, in fact, the two jhooks are ok, but they are pivot on two plastics bushing, and they are operating with a little spring, i need both parts, i find out a store, they are selling the tiny spring 75$, with two bushing for both side they ask more than 600$, ridiculus.

Is there, such parts available on the market, or how to replace them, so i be able, to arrange something homemade

    Thanks

Serge: Welcome to TBN and good luck in your search for parts . If you do a search on this site you may find members who had the same experience and how to make necessary repairs without spending a fortune . Assume you are in Quebec, Canada .

I bought new solid steel arms from a guy on another bird forum who machines them himself. I had mine replaced while my top was being redone. They work well and will not fail like the original plastic parts. They reuse the j hooks, and come with the springs and nylon bushings too. Pm me if you can’t track them down.

I remember when I closed my top and the old latch fell into my lap ! I barely owned the car a month !! Ford wanted to sell me the whole front assembly...no thanks.

The repair parts are available. Goggle 2002-05 T-Bird parts & you will find out who sells the repair kit.
I would tell you who it is exactly but a certain amount of members get themselves worked up over that.

Mike, did you read the last sentence in the first paragraph on the original post? Serge said he found a place that wanted a ridiculous $600 for a j hook repair kit, so he had already found your buddy.

Could this have anything to do with this thread? Bought these from Chromer cause it was cheap and it had to do with J-hook repair. Don't know who originally did them but maybe Cheryl can advise. 6 or 8 pages/pictures. Very well documented.

LOL, there's also an OEM, set on eBay for 69. but being a passive aggressive instigator I will mention eBay without actually mentioning the web address of Ebay

Chrome or painted doesn't make a difference--$179. Just sold 4 never mounted chrome to Tbear for less money ($170) delivered to his door. (see classifieds--4 left)

Who buys from this guy at these prices?

Chromer advised a user that rhymed with her uncle's name but couldn't quite remember it. I went on a hunt and found the gent whose user name is Oley (Donn Olsen). Don't know if he's here much anymore but I'd sure give it a shout.
