  • Coolant leak for Christmas

Wife and I enjoyed a nice day ride on Christmas day. Found a coolant leak the next day on garage floor under passenger side. Not what I wanted for the new year. I have not tried to locate the leak source yet, but I suspect the dual climate control valve as hot air was blowing out the vents during our ride. I ordered a new valve from Rockauto and will deal with the leak issue when it arrives. I had the thermostat housing and hoses changed last year. More to come.

Unfortunately, that's usually the way it is.

No such thing as a minimal repair on these old birds. I brought the car to my preferred independent mechanic shop with the replacement valve. Mechanic agreed valve is cause of hot air blowing out vents.
As expected, coolant system failed a static, low pressure test. More than one heater hose appears to be cracked and leaking at the ford OEM hose clamps connections. All hoses are the original equipment. Just like the rubber suspension parts, age has caused deterioration. Shop recommended draining and flushing the system before changing all the hoses, including upper and lower radiator hoses. Also clean and pressure test radiator with hoses disconnected. ( praying the radiator and heater core is not leaking)Hoses and their plastic connectors are on back order.
Estimated costs now at $800.00 parts and labor. OUCH!! Hope to get car back next week. I will provide final outcome info.

Thanks for your update. Sorry about the hit to the wallet. I suppose that it could have been worse.
