Last night at Barrett-Jackson a 2002 Bird with 54K miles sold for $2100.00 + a 10% fee. Nothing special that I saw, had a chrome/stainless steel strip on the upper body line and a roadrunner decal on the filler cap.
Feel'n pretty good about the value of my 05 Cashmere right now!
No matter where you go, there you are!
If I'm not here, I'll be somewhere else !

He did, it was also evidence that sometimes "no reserve" will get two buyers giddy. The two others that sold brought much less. More in line with Mecum Kissimmee prices.

            OOOOP's

            It was $21,000.00 + $2,100.00.
Sometimes I get excited and don't reread my post's before I hit "post reply"

              Terry,
Now, if I were a good detective I would have figured out what you were thinking.
The 10% should have been a clue.

I've always said is all it takes is two rich guys trying to please their significant others after having just spent serious money on other toys to drive the price up. Add a little machismo and liquid refreshment to the mix and the bids go higher than they should. They could have bought a 20K or less mileage car for the same or less money with a little shopping around. The guy that won that auction is the guy that was outbid.

When my daughter was in Law School at the University of Chicago they talked about when the "winner is the loser". In an Auction rather than get something for the best (lowest) price, the winner is the one who pays more than everyone else bidding thinks the thing is worth. Now that isn't always the case, it could be there are no other people that want what you are bidding on and it is just between you and the seller. But that isn't an auction is it?
Reserves also complicate the process, because when it comes off it frequently sells right at that price. I am much more comfortable setting a price higher than I expect to get and waiting for an offer that is acceptable.

Years ago a man showed up at the North Jersey Thunderbird show with a new to him baby bird. When prizes were awarded at the end of the show, he had a third place trophy. Well, this guy flipped out. He had just paid like 80K for the car at BJ. Guess he didn’t really win that auction.
