I am still trying to figure out if I even have all the mounting points yet... It's my first T-bird, and I don't know what should be there, or what's missing... I have two ball-socket things to the rear, and two threaded spindles up front... I think you can make them out in the pic here. But, do I have all the mounting pieces? I do not know. I am also thinking of the Jag cover... I think it is better looking... bird7 (2).jpg

Jag covers are cheap! I'd go that way

The cover should come with a couple of plastic "screws" that fit into the front openings of the cover. The two "ball socket things" in the back are what the cover rests on when in place...the 2 screws up front go through the top of the cover and then tighten the cover down onto the engine, by way to the "two threaded spindles" ... make sure any cover you purchase includes the 2 plastic screws (when the cover is removed, they detach and can be lost).

The plastic "screws" are still available from Ford. I dropped one last year and it disappeared somewhere on top of the engine (never did find it after extensive searching). They may be available from other places but was only a few bucks from Ford so went that route.

The screw cap that holds the engine cover in place....Ford part number W708656 S300
packaged one to a plastic bag.
Ford refers them as a PIN
            You will need 2.

I would like to also suggest that when taking car for service anywhere that you remove & keep at home these 2 cap screws as well as the cover. They won't get lost or striped out if they stay at home.

Good point, Mike. Some friends had there car in for work and the technician somehow managed to back over the engine cover while it was off. Since mine is in the shop for a no start issue, I wish I would have thought to remove it. I just need to remember to check it before I bring it home.

On a similar note, I always remove my center caps when I take the car in for a tire rotation. I'd just as soon the weren't bounced off or scraped on the floor.

Totally agree...I didn't like sending my Birds to the dealer with the cover in place.

I like the Jag cover also. Won't get the Bird out of storage til May at which time I do believe I'll track down a Jag cover. Anyone who wants to wait I'll then sell my Bird cover for what I have in the Jag cover.

Good idea to take the engine cover off for service, I will do that next time. The last time I got an oil change it was clear they used the cover as a shelf since there were oil bottle shaped oil residue all over it. Clearly no respect for a customers car since I keep the engine bay sparkling clean and they didn't care.

Not sure why anyone thinks the Jaguar cover is better looking than the T-bird version, but to each their own. At least you can make it look better by using a TBN grill badge to cover that cat face on the front of it.
