  • Buy/Drive/Burn - Old Man Garage Queens from the Early 2000's

One website I read most every day is www.thetruthaboutcars.com. Periodically they will take 3 vehicles from a period of time and ask the readers which would you buy, which would you drive, and which would you burn. Our 11th generation Thunderbirds, the Chevrolet SSR, and the Plymouth Prowler were the subject vehicles today. To me, the Thunderbird was the best looking and most enjoyable for reasonable use (cruising, long road trips, etc.). The Plymouth Prowler was totally impractical in every way and I was never real keen on the styling of it or the SSR.

Unfortunately, many of the readers don't feel the same way about the T-Bird.

Once upon a time in the early 2000s, a special convergence of factors created three very special cars. You can only burn one.

The only similarity for comparison in this article is the three vehicles are no longer in production, of which two should have never been built in the first place. IMO

I dont care what people think in my own way I liked all three
1 thunderbird was a cool car that had the look kinda of my favorite since childhood a 57
2 the roadster look of the prowler still has appeal to me
3 the SSR although a bit ugly had almost everything, a 2 seater, convertible, hard top, power, and you could haul sh*t,if it had only been a 4x4!!!
        figured I needed something here

I for one liked all three and would gladly take any and all donations of them to my garage. Bring one or bring all.

Some of the comments were depressing but there were many that would buy/drive the Thunderbird. I also, had wished they had given the car a larger V8 or at least stayed with the jag engine 4.2L but everyone wants more horsepower in the end. The unfavorable comments about the styling of the car were just blockhead spews of those not understanding or appreciating the car's inherent charm. The Thunderbird turns heads wherever I go, and there is no other car that I would choose to drive.

Besides, the world is soon going to be cluttered up soon with all those SUV's and crossover vehicles... I will be sitting pretty with a smile upon my face as I zoom on by.

It is another iteration of 9mm, or .45cal... bud light, or Guinness... bourbon, or single-malt scotch... Ford, Chevy, or Mopar... Seahawks, or 49ers... Seems like folks just seem to NEED something to argue about. I try to see a persons treasure as they themselves view it. Why take the shine off someone else's prize? It may not be the one I would want, but it IS awesome to them. That said... T-BIRD all the way! (for me). My 2 centavos.

What others think matters little to me.
