A company called DrawTite made a trailer hitch for the Tbird. They are now very hard to find. You may need to have one custom fabricated. See this thread for more information.

          Fredrik,
There were towbars available from after-market suppliers many years ago.
But, I have not seen any towbars available recently.
Also, the required trailer towing electrical harness is difficult to find.

There have been a few people on TBN, such as DavidA, who installed towbar units on their T-Birds.
Maybe search on TBN for trailers or towing.

Check out these websites: Ebay, draw-tite.com, hidden-hitch.com, etrailer.com or hitchweb.com

Pretty sure that David used the wiring for a Ford Windstar.

About a year ago I was looking around for a tow bar and checked with uhaul. At that time they offered to fabricate a tow bar for free so they could have a template to make more at their Arizona Facility. I just checked their website and found the offer still good, so if your willing to drive down there and let them have your car for three days you can get one from them. You could get your tow bar and the rest of us would have a new source to purchase one. I drilled down on their web site, www.uhaul.com to the tow bar section and found the attached notice.

The wiring requires a positive ground switch for the trailer lights. Ford Windstar "boxes" are still available. The actual hitch is near impossible to find now. Also be aware that the car has a 2000 pound towing limit.

I too was interested in adding a class 1 or 2 towbar(receiver) so that I could add a luggage carrier or bike rack. They give you a gas tank with enough capacity to drive across country but the trunk space although generous for what the Bird is doesn't quite add up to a extended road trip.

If anyone has old part numbers or ideas shoot me a message

You are looking for a DrawTite 24705. Very hard to find at this point. I salted one away years ago along with the Windstar box. Not willing to part with it as I may still need to use it. Guess the best thing would be for someone near Arizona to go to UHaul. I know that they used to carry them so I don’t get their problem.

Fredrik - seems as though with caravanning being popular in England and France in particular, there should be sources closer to you. Good luck (and great looking boat, by the way)!

I will look at all the pages and maby also ask our local tractor-workshop that have made a towbar for my Opel some years ago they are licensed to make towbars

A trunk rack with a couple of smaller or one large Pelican brand case works very well for extended trips.

Stexbower - you must have one of those magic gas tanks! I drove from Traverse City, Michigan to Emeryville, California and lost count of how many times that I filled up. Five times, I think (once a day). My trunk carried the cart for the hardtop, and I bought two large gym bags, was able to bring home a month's worth of clothing and odds & ends. True, some things were stuffed in the voids around the gym bags, but I didn't need a luggage rack.

Fredrik - I'm sure you'll work out something as regards a trailer hitch. Looking forward to seeing photos of the boat you're considering.
