  • Every fourth start is rough

First three starts seems to run as strong as ever. Next one won't get over 500 rpm and seems to be dying. Turn off and next three are normal starts and goes down the road as strong as could be untill the next shaky 500 rpm start. Thoughts be for it will go in to friendly mechanic??????

I used to get something that acted like a vapor lock on my 2003. Warm up and drive, shut off and restart within a few minutes. Would run incredibly rough, putting in in gear and driving off would correct the issue

Search Vapor Lock on TBN, my suspicion at the time was that it was related to the switch to/from summer blend fuel, I would only get it in spring and fall. Never had it in a 2002

John that might not happen for long as I finally convinced the Navigator to take the Ghost on their first outing. Convinced her that I'm not an ogre ( taken 49+ years) and that if the car is damaged we just get it fixed. She came back convinced that I was out of my mind for trying to sell. Said it was without a doubt the nicest car we've had. (OLD or NEW Corvettes, Chevys or Cadillacs not withstanding) She really liked driving it! Oopps that might be a mistake getting her behind the wheel!

Any other thoughts on rough periodic start. Could it be the Lucas injector cleaner I dumped in prior to roughness. Or maybe the Jag engine cover????

Well, Bill, Ted can alleviate your problem: buy his Bronze outright, and you have a Bird for each of you!

First place I would look at is the coils.

Sound to me like it's going into limp mode. Strange there are no trouble codes.
You might want to take it to someone who can do complete system scan.

The difference between summer- and winter-blend gasoline involves the Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) of the fuel. RVP is a measure of how easily the fuel evaporates at a given temperature. The more volatile a gasoline(higher RVP), the easier it evaporates

Bill, I have that problem from time to time in my 007. Usually I drive through it and it quits missing after a few yards. There are also times when I restart it. I have experienced the issue for several years. Almost impossible to find something wrong when it isn't repeatable.

When I had the issue, it didn't feel like the missing, seemed fuel related

Bill, I had a similar problem with my car. I went to my friendly Ford dealer and they checked for codes, none found. The Service Adviser suggested I try a can of "Sea Foam" or an equivalent and put the whole can in a full tank of gasolene. It worked after using up about 1/2 of the gas, continued until I got down to a 1/4 tank then filled up with 93 octane at Costco. No problems since I used the Sea Foam cleaner.

My problem was solved with the advice and counsel of Mr. Ellison. Thanks to all who replied.
