  • Point in the right direction?

    Hello Everyone!!

Hoping for some brainstorming or general "check here" or "look at this" ideas. I have an 04 and it has started giving some odd issues. Soft top will not retract, driver window will not move (passenger side no problem from either switch), instrument cluster lights sometimes on or off, headlights will go out, check oil light and the door ajar light has come on and fluids are fine and doors are closed. I'm not a "total car guy", but have access to several. Just hoping someone out there has had a little more experience and can provide a direction to look. Checked all the fuses already.

Thanks in advance for your wisdom!!!!

All your symptoms point to the FEM front electronic module. It is located behind the panel by the driver's left foot. These are repairable. On this site do a search for Front Electronic Module repair, I can't recall the name of the place, but the search will tell you or maybe someone else will jump in here with that name.
You remove the module & send it to this facility with all the info you can possibly tell them It comes back to you repaired at a far lesser price than purchasing a new or rebuilt one if you can even find one.

Try the window calibration procedure in the owner's manual - my DS window stopped working and the door ajar light came on. I charged up the battery and did the procedure and all is well. This might not address your other issues though.

Oddly enough, the hood and trunk also count as doors. Make sure that both of those switches are aligned properly.

Very much appreciated for the ideas and information from everyone! An added wrinkle to the fun and excitement is the total randomness of the issues. Yesterday at work, driver window wouldn't go down during lunch & passenger side was fine. Finished my day and everything was perfect for the drive home. Headlights, windows, soft top....everything worked perfectly. Parked in my garage, get up this morning to head back to work, no headlights, window didn't drop and go back up when the door shut. So frustrating!!!!!

Paul, with those kind of intermittent glitches, you might consider having your battery tested someplace to make sure all cells are working at capacity When was the battery last replaced? A weak battery can produce some of those symptoms.

I agree with Dot. A battery that is not p to snuff can cause all kinds of weird issues.

New battery put in yesterday. Worked perfect for 2 errands.....then back to issues. I can’t thank everyone enough for your thoughts and ideas. Going to send out the module this week.
