  • Steering Wheel Tele and Tilt Disable

Finally did it. I removed Fuse19, a 20 amp fuse, to eliminate the stupid steering wheel going full in and full tilt down for the ladies every time I get out.

I have been clicking the wheel switch twice when I got out in order to stop the motors from doing their thing. I was going to wear the switch out.

No dash warning lights present. I suppose it would show up during an OBDII scan.

See attached passenger side lower fuse panel.

Thanks Hermann. One thing I wish I still owned was my 2005 shop manual. Should I ever need to disconnect this telescope/tilt operation, I now have some useful info.
    Thanks again...Jim

I would think it is the same fuse in same location.

I am confused. The steering wheels on both our 02 and 05 go in and then up ,giving any one no matter how tall or short, easy entry and exit from the seat. but if removing the fuse is working for your needs, then do it, just remember to activate that fuse again when you sell the car.

This means your position sensor is not working, Either gone bad, or tabs for
position sensor came out of tabs on steering wheel. Mine did same thing, remover
complete assembly and fixed position sensor, put steering columb back. Works
            great.

It goes in and hits my knees. You all short legged people have no problem when the wheel is all the way in. It just does not go up high enough.

There is no custom memory wheel position like my 2005 Chrysler 300C. Is there one in 2003 to 2005?

P.S. The seat is all the way back.

The fuse is taped to the inside fuse panel cover, indicating it is a 20 amp fuse. I also would put a note into the user manual.

Thanks Hermann. Now I understand. My 2003 has that feature. I believe all years are alike in that regard.

Anyone know how tall or petite Nancy Gioia (Tbird Design Team) is?
2002 Tbird was her proudest achievement.

Lands right on top of my knees when getting out or in.

The many of us that have met Nancy can attest to the fact that she is a very small woman. While the retrobirds are more comfortable for smaller people in a lot of respects, I highly doubt Nancy's stature had anything to do with it. She was the chief engineer not the chief designer. Doug Gaffka was the chief designer and as I remember he was somewhere around 6 foot or so. I think the size all came down to making things work with the LS platform.

Most taller drivers actually benefit from the seat being a little forward of all the way back, with the seat back lowered a little.
