  • Need Throttle Body Advice

The next morning (yesterday) after returning from Northern Lakes Getaway/Road Trip the Bird threw a Throttle Body Code. Took it to Ford they want $1,500 for part and labor.
Rock Auto has part for $350....What other parts might I need to complete install? Can a competent independent garage do the install and tune.?

Are you sue that's what it is? Sometimes just cleaning the sensor in the air plenum is all that's needed.
Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9 Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting. Best of all ... fabulous friends.

With the correct parts and the shop manuals a competent shop should be able to do the repair and save you money....what exact part are you pricing out ?

I am picking it up from Ford in the morning and taking it to my indepenent to do the unplugging, replugging and cleaning routine first before I determine if it needs to be replaced.

Good move - I only use the dealers' services as a last resort or for warranty work...

Ford wants $1,100 for Throttle Body unit and then the big double-talk circle starts with " That didnt fix it ------ it must be the transmission or the air conditioner and if that doesnt work you will need a new set of tires and a rebuilt engine "

If that is the real problem, I bought a refurbished one off Ebay for less than $200 and my shop installed for $60.

                I agree.

When I replaced the automatic door lock modules and door ajar sensors on my '02 Bird a couple of months back the Ford parts were marked up about 200% from what I could get them for from Amazon and other sources... It wasn't just a "dealer markup" of 10%-15% which I would expect, it was just exorbitantly over-pricing of parts.
