OK, might be time to take it to the dealer. This morning, after starting the car, the telescoping steering wheel did not work, all the dash lites stayed on, the beeping from the key being in the ignition switch kept beeping, and the headlights kept blinking on and off with the switch in the off position.Originally posted by HKS View Post
The blinker relay makes a sound as expected. I wonder what actually switches the turn signals?
An OBDII error code switches both turn signals a couple of times, and of course, the turn lights are also activated by the hazard switch.
I will look at the diagrams and see.
Looks like the blinker relay sound is just there to let you know the turn signal is active and to remember to shut it off.
It would not hurt to replace the blinker relay anyway since it may set the blinking duration.
Turn Signal Lighting.
The turn signals are divided into two areas. The front and the rear. The left and right front turn lamp outputs are controlled by the FEM and the left and right rear turn lamps are controlled by the REM. The multifunction switch is hardwired to the instrument cluster. When the switch is in the left or right turn position, the instrument cluster sends a command via the SCP network to the FEM and the REM. The FEM will in turn process this information and output the appropriate command to the front turn lamps. The REM will in turn process this information and output the appropriate command to the rear hazard lamps, which are the turn signal lamps. All lamps provide lamp outage indication
Does this sound like the FEM ???? or are the Halloween gremlins in the car.

Some of your problems seem to be associated with the steering column: might have something to do with the clock spring.

I would put a voltmeter on the battery and read voltage before starting car, and again after. I am thinking voltage
is ok before starting, and during starting voltage is dropping to low, and FEM, instrument cluster, so on my
be affected by a very low voltage during starting.

Sounds like a clock spring issue. Have you checked the operation of the cruise control and radio control? I'll bet they are intermittent too.Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9

I have had consistently erratic turn signals for the last year or so. In either direction, they would blink, pause and start blinking again. All lamps were good. Inspection is coming up and afraid it would not pass. Emergency flashers worked fine. I believed the issue was with the turn signal switch. I was able to fix the issue by gently pushing the switch arm just a fraction of an inch further than required. I noticed that when I held it there the flashers worked correctly. After doing this a few times the signals are working normally again. I haven’t disassembled it, but believe the contacts were just dirty. Been working for a few days now. I was just glad it wasn’t the dreaded FEM.
