Would suggest that you get an "unchipped" key and have it cut for your car using your regular car key for the key pattern.
It would still have to have the key fob with it to disarm the alarm system.
I'm curious as to why you would need one? Ford never offered a key like that for these cars.
I've never understood the keyed trunk release. Is it to prevent someone who broke into your car from going in the trunk? I was going to swap the trunk lock keys between cars so that I could keep the valet from having access to my trunk

So Brad, you had a driver's door/trunk lock key that didn't also start your car? There has always only been one key for the whole car lock system on the Thunderbird, never a separate trunk lock key like on older models. Workshop manuals for all 4 years only deal with the chipped key.

As usual, Dot is correct. Cars were delivered with two chipped keys and two remotes. There were no valet keys.

Bottom line, you can’t lose it. It didn’t exist.
I got a door lock key (only) by mistake when the Ford dealer was supposed to make a replacement ignition key for the 2002.
I suppose the valet could leave the real keys in the car and take the door lock key????

I had a door/trunk key made and used gorilla tape to tape it u dear the front bumper just in case I locked my keys in the trunk or in the car. I'll have to check that out to see if it's still there when I get the car out of storage, kind of forgot about it until I read this post.

You are right. Now I know what the key is really made for.
In the olden days they used to sell a little magnetic metal key box that you attach under the car someplace.
It may be tough to find sheet metal parts to stick it to nowadays.

I think the trunk release key hole inside the car is for a dead battery situation. Suppose your battery dies. The battery is in the trunk. The trunk release from the key fob needs power from the battery to release the trunk lid. How does one get into the trunk otherwise?

Dot, I never did it but my plan was to use 2 cars, make non chip keys and swap the trunk release lock and non-chip keys between car. That way each car would have a different key for the trunk lockout. I wanted it so that when I valet the car I could lock "valuables" in the trunk and take that key and the FOB with me leaving the ignition key with the Valet and the key wouldn't open the trunk. You could also do this with the glovebox.
I have a question regarding the way the trunk latch would react to this situation. Picture the car is empty, engine off key out, parked, top down, locked and alarm is set.
What happens if you reach in down to & press the trunk release button and open the trunk? Will the alarm sound off? Or will the car react as if the trunk release button was pressed on the fob?
This I think would be similar to someone reaching in and opening a door using the interior door handle. Does the alarm sound off?
Since my HT is still on from the winter months I can't try any of this out, otherwise I would.
