Bill, I'm sure I'm having more fun with this than anyone else. My memory isn't the greatest, so to make sure I have my facts pretty straight, I start reading thre old event threads. It brings back so many fond memories of the places we've been and the people we've met. It also reminds me of friends that have moved on from the car and the forum, as well the ones that have left us for good. That part can be sad, but life goes on and I get one more chance to remember them that I might not have had otherwise.21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !

Hey, it's Thursday already!
Today's piece of memorabilia is not associated with an organized event. I will say that when these pieces of art were being made for TBN members it was an event unto itself, with everyone anxiously waiting for theirs to be unveiled by the artist.
Here's the item:

Here are the trivia questions:
1. What was the name of the TBN member that led us to the artist?
2. What was the name of the artist and their relationship to the TBN member?
3. What is this type of art work called?
4. What year were most of these made?
5. If you have one post a picture of it and describe what type of wood it is made of and describe any specifics you requested that made it unique.
For example: I requested mine be done in natural cherry wood for the red effect and have a representation of the chrome hood scoop.
By the way, if you have ideas for this thread, send me a picture via pm or email (2k2bird at cablelynx.com) . I received a good one from RustyFrye recently that will be in an upcoming installment.21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !

I happened on to a picture of Pat's sculpture, in case he doesn't have one.

1. Colonel Jim Young (US Army Retired), whose TBN handle was/is Jim Young, from South Carolina told us about the art work his daughter does creating pictures from wood. Jim is an artist in his own right, making sculptures out of iron.
2. Tracey Young is the artist who created these special wooden retrobird carvings. At the time she was living in Texas. She later moved to Maryland where she was unable to continue her art work due noise restrictions in her apartment complex. Recently, I was able to access her old website, but now I can't seem to get it to work.
3. Intarsia is the name of the style work Tracey used to create these pieces. This is her description of intarsia:
Intarsia is a centuries old techniques that uses the colors, textures and grain of wood to create works of art. My work involves many hours of work including designing, wood selection - for both grain and color, sawing, sanding and contouring, fitting, gluing, and finally putting the proper finish on the wood to bring out its best qualities.
4. Tracey started making these in 2004. She had a top down view as well and both could be combined on a plaque. I believe Spence has one like this. The cars are in blue pine that does a great job of representing Thunderbird Blue. I believe most of her commissions were finished before Thunder Fever in 2005.
5. I had hoped more would show pictures of their intarsia plaques. My backup plan was to point folks to Tracey's website where I pulled Pat's from just a couple of days ago. Here's the site in case it starts working again:

I found one more picture on Dot's site. I'm not sure who the owner is of this particular piece.

I agree that it looks like one and the same. I'm sure Dot just picked out one from Tracey's site to post as an example. It's a nice representation of Ray's Whisper White before he modified it.
After 16 years, I've slept a bunch, so I definitely can't remember the cost back then. I know they weren't cheap, but I don't remember them being terribly expensive. Maybe Pat remembers or someone else may know.21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !
