So far in Throw back memories I am pleased to say that the Texas Thunder event in 2011 was my first.
I can't remember any further back in time.

    And now.

Paul, Since my 'back', 'seat', and '2002' clues did nothing for anyone I will leave it to you to offer up results since this is your thread. Enjoy!

I'll fill in what I remember, but if I get some of the details wrong you can jump in and correct me.

        1. The original picture Doug sent me tells you what it is:

        IMG_3152.jpg

        2. So, what is a Nudo? Ask Ford! 2002 Thunderbirds were advertised as having Nudo leather seats. It kind of became a running joke on TBN about what a Nudo looked like and how many Nudos it took to make a seat cover, etc. Since 03-05 owners never had the opportunity to own Nudo leather, as their seats were made of plain ol' cow hide, evidently the planners of Thunder Fever thought everyone could benefit from a small Nudo skin of their own to take home.

Just another crazy story from TBN's past. You really had to be here then to understand the humor.

Just an additional fact, I believe the 03-05 came with Imola leather. Not as endangered as the Nudo, but still quite rare......

An Imola can never compare to a Nudo.

This week's edition of Throwback Thursdays will jog some of our memories on the unique and interesting places we have stayed during some of our events and travel events. Who can forget The Shacks in Clarksdale, Mississippi, The Carnegie in Johnson, City, Tennessee, the Sunnyside Cottages in Bar Harbor, Maine, the Silver Saddle Motel in Sante Fe, New Mexico, The Idlewild House in Manomet, Massachusetts or the Thunderbird Lodge in Mt. Carmel, Utah just to name a few?

The other day when I was arranging some things in the trunk I came across the sticker (minus the town name) in the picture below. This was definitely one of the more interesting places we've stayed and pretty memorable because of a unique feature that we haven't encountered before or since.

              20200510_212250.jpg

Without Google lets see if anyone remembers or can guess the answers to these questions.

              Where is the Yodeler Motel?

What travel event were we on when we stayed there? Date(s) of the event?

What landmark is just outside the town and the reason we chose the route that landed us there for the night?

What was the feature that made our stay at the Yodeler Motel unique?

I googled it. Is that cheating? I didn't go there with y'all but I am curious about what year this event took place.

Correct on all except for the last bit about the hot tubs, ha. I forgot to mention that Pat set up the stay at The Yodeler. Unfortunately, they had to leave the group before getting to stay there. You definitely missed one of the most beautiful drives in the USA topping out at over 10,000 ft.

Here we are sitting at the top of Beartooth Pass:

I bet it was chilly up there. We sure do have a beautiful country.

We were there in July, so it wasn't that bad. We do have an amazingly beautiful country. We have been so fortunate to have seen so many wonderful places in our retrobirds. I feel extremely blessed and thankful to our TBN event planners for making it easy for us.

                          4. Much of the hotel was below grade. In other words, you went down a few steps from the parking lot to get to many of the rooms.

BTW, the weather was great, not cold at all. That was a great trip.
Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9 Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting. Best of all ... fabulous friends.

I had assumed it was cold as there was snow in the photos and you must have been at altitude.

Yeah, that was residual from the winter. Earlier in the trip in Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California we saw even more snow, but it was still short sleeve weather:

The view from the highway was really spectacular. I would probably have done that trip but it was too similar to a trip I took with Brian Metzger, 2 years earlier. One of the highlights of Montana was the Glacier National Park and Lake McDonald Lodge.
