  • Electrical Issues

I haven’t been in here for awhile, so don’t know if anyone else has had this issue.
i keep my 2004 Thunderbird at our lake house. Consequently, I don’t get to drive Pearl, that’s her name, very much. She had 28,500 miles on her when I bought her. That was 6 1/2 years ago, she now has 34,400.
Anyway, I was boosting her off, as she had set for several months. After I got her started, I jumped out to remove the jumper cables. My wife had disconnected the cable off of my truck and pulled the negative cable off of Pearl. Just as I got to the back, the negative cable touched Pearl’s inside trunk causing sparks. Pearl immediately died and now nothing electrical is working. Nothing on the car work-nothing.
so my question is, what happened when she let the negative cable touch the body? I’m hoping just a fuse but how do I find the one that’s bad? If in fact that’s what happened.
like I said above, haven’t been on here in a while, for various reasons. But, this was the first place I knew to come to seek help. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If everything is dead, could be the master fuse which is 175 amps, or something close. Master fuse is mounted on the
front side of the rear fuse box closest to the rear axle.

Your wife must have put the positive and negative clamps together after disconnecting from the truck side.
When the negative end of the Tbird side touched metal it was really positive making a direct short across the battery. You must have had the positive terminal still connected on the Tbird. I don't know how that would blow the master fuse. If it did then all is as is OK after replacing fuse.
I suspect some other fusible link (near the battery compartment) may have burnt out like it was supposed to do. Or battery ground connection burnt out/corroded???

Thanks for all the excellent advise. It was in fact, the Master Fuse. Had my dealership order an original Ford part. Took a few days as it had to come out of Memphis, Tennessee. When she inadvertently touched the jumper cables, it must of screwed the battery.
Anyway, replaced both and Pearl runs like a top. Took off the hard top and cruised to Ft. Worth on Sunday with the top down.
        Love my TBird.
        Again, thanks for everyone’s help.
