  • Window trouble

When you open the door with the window all the way up, the window is supposed to go down slightly, then goes back up when it's closed.

My driver's side window does the down part, but doesn't go back up. What is likely causing this flaw?

Your windows probably lost their program. This can happen if you have a dead battery or it is disconnected. Lower both windows together and hold the buttons down for ten seconds. Then raise them all the way and hold for another ten seconds. That should resolve the issue if I’m remembering the procedure correctly. It’s all outlined in the owner manual.

One of the causes of that might be a battery getting weak.

The process to reset the window drop is also covered in the owners manual....

I've tried resetting mine and it doesn't seem to help. With soft top up, both windows rub on the soft top when opening (they drop, but not enough). They don't rub with hardtop, just soft top...been this way since I got the car in Jan 2019.

And Reuben, check back in with us and let us know if what Gene or Dot shared is helpful.

I assume you did a reset with the soft top.

Yep, did that immediately when I saw what was happening last year after removing hardtop...have done it several times since...doesn't help.

                  Maybe it’s the top?

Yep...that's what I'm thinking. We have a first-cabin soft top repair place here in Phoenix - may take it to them if Ford doesn't do anything with it.

I think the dealers usually send them out.

Yeah...the prior IG I owned had to have the soft top frame rebuilt by dealer...they farmed it out to an independent shop.

Same problem. I heard the clicking sound when I pressed and held the button. Still no luck. I tried 1 window, and both together. It's only the driver's side window. Passenger window is fine. Battery was replaced 2 weeks ago by Ford/Lincoln dealer.

The signal for the windows passes through one of the modules either FEM or REM. Could be a problem there BUT before going there let’s try something else that is free. Your owners manual gives a specific routine to follow when a new battery is installed. I wouldn’t be sure that the dealer used it. It’s simple and it’s worth a try.

Because your vehicle’s engine is electronically controlled by a computer, some control conditions are maintained by power from the battery. When the battery is disconnected or a new battery is installed, the engine must relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy for optimum driveability and performance. To begin this process:
                              1. With the vehicle at a complete stop, set the parking brake.
                              2. Put the gearshift in P (Park), turn off all accessories and start the engine.
                              3. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
                              4. Allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
                              5. Turn the A/C on and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
                              6. Drive the vehicle to complete the relearning process.
                              • The vehicle may need to be driven to relearn the idle and fuel trim strategy.
