My father told me a story that back in 1950 when he was fresh out of college and living in NJ, he and a friend went to look at a 1936 Ford. They were thinking of splitting the price ($400) as the body was in near perfect condition. It was painted maroon but had a problem with the paint continually flaking off. It was a very bright metal underneath and the owner said the paint just wouldn't stay on in. They decided to pass due to the paint issue.
Much later he learned about the stainless cars and always wondered if that was one of the missing ones. If only we could go back in time.

My first job after graduation was working as a Metallurgist for Allegheny Ludlum in 1968. I worked for the company for 9 months before I had to report for active duty at Fort Knox to honor my college ROTC Commitment. Never heard anything about these cars during my brief career with the company. Learn something new every day.
Wonder if I’m eligible for an employee discount?
