You do realize that, except for the last three years of Thunderbirds before the Retros, every Thunderbird grille was some incarnation of an egg crate grille, right? Egg crate grille designs aren't exactly a radical departure from legacy.

You must have a real problem getting eggs home from the store!

When I finally bought my retro, which I had long admired, there were only three minor things about it that I didn't like.
First, was what I called "Grampa" wheels. Immediately taken care of.
Second, auto transmission; nothing to be done about that.
Third, that thick, plastic, egg-crate grill! My first car was a '62 Volvo P1800, with an egg-crate grill, but its slats were narrow and metal, and looked great and exotic. It took a while to come up with a solution for the 'Bird. Then, after three months in the custom shop and $4500, I was satisfied. To me, the car was special, and worth it. (I had originally anticipated spending about $500 for an after-market replacement.)

But I understand that some would feel the car is not worth it, or would prefer to leave it original.

Ted...your grill changes are the nicest I’ve seen. You have a good eye for design.
