  • Different Windshields

I thought all the original windshields had the PPG logo on them. The Nieman Marcus does not, it has the Carlite logo.

That Carlite windshield also has the older Tbird logo... However that DOT 18 code says it's a PPG windshield. Perhaps PPG bought Carlite about the time the Tbird was introduced? http://www.carwindshields.info/dot_db

You may be right, Steve, but no doubt he'd have done it with much more panache!

Carlite is made by Ford for Ford vehicles. I found nothing to indicate that Carlite was sold to PPG.

Side windows and back windows are Carlite. I know Ford made Carlite glass at the Nashville Glass plant.

The Carlite logo goes back to the sixties on Ford products.

What else accounts for the "DOT 18" reference saying it is made by PPG?

Hippy_Mailman, does your Carlite windshield have the old Tbird logo? And does it have the same "DOT 18 M413"?

Perhaps they contracted out for an initial supply? Other than that, I have no idea.

it does have DOT M413 and the logo is like the PPG above post 2 with no lines in the wings like the carlite above in post 2

I guess the 2002 owners need to check their's. The T/bird Blue built in late February has the PPG logo and no feather wings. The Nieman Marcus is vin 2Y100190, so early production.
