  • OB2 code p0456, evap emission system small leak

The check engine light came on and when I ran the codes, it came back with the p0456 evap leak. I looked at the gas cap and put some vasoline around seal but that doesn't seem to matter. Is there a typical location that you usually find the source problem of the leak? This is a 2002 with 71K miles. Thanks, Barry

My car has same recurring code. I say recurring as my mechanic said it's no big deal. I did replace the gas cap hoping it was that simple but no luck.
It's a vacuum leak that may be occurring somewhere between the gas cap and the engine. May be a pinhole leak in a hose. Requires a smoke test to determine source.
I simply clear the code with the OBD reader each time it pops up. Happens about every 300 miles or so. Does not affect performance. If you have yours fixed, let us know what you found.
