  • Car Relay from Georgia to Pennsylvania

Hi to all our Thunderbird friends. When Louise and I first saw the Medium Steel Blue Thunderbird we were really interested in purchasing one. We of course hoped to find one in great condition with low mileage.
Steve Eberhart knew we were looking for one like theirs and texted me that he saw one in the Atlanta Georgia area on the Facebook Market Place that looked good. I started communicating with the owner who happened to be an 83 year old gentleman and was the second owner. He had the car ten years and took very good care of it. After talking price I told him I would try to get someone in the area to look at it for me. I called Steve and Donna and it turns out that they live 30 miles from the seller. They went to see the car and were amazed how nice it was, like NEW with only 12,800 miles. Steve wanted the wheels for their car! Ha Ha!
I contacted the seller and told him we would purchase the car. Now we needed to work out a plan on how to get the car home. We are almost 900 miles away and the car still has the original tires on it. I did not want to drive the car all the way home to Pennsylvania on those tires.

As I was trying to figure out a plan, I got a text from Donna. She and Steve offered to bring the car up to Tennessee to Ron and Liz's area and we could meet them there with a trailer. We talked to Ron and Liz and they said sure, come stay the weekend. Boy, all you southern folks are so friendly and helpful. Our PCR made a similar trip a few years ago. Ron and Liz picked up the PCR in Mississippi from Charlie and Margret Cain. They brought it to Tennessee where my son in law and I picked it up with an auto carrier and off to Pennsylvania.
We had to expedite the purchase because the owner's insurance was running out July 10th and we were not picking up the car till July 24th. Thanks to Steve and Donna for completing the deal and getting the title to me here in Pennsylvania. We transferred the car to our name and added it to our insurance.
The seller is willing to hold the car till the 24th when Steve and Donna plan to pick the car up and drive it to Ron and Liz's area.
It just so happens that all this planning has a secondary objective. Ron called and told me about the "Proposed: 2020 hardtop relay Maryland to Florida". The plan was that prior to our arrival Ron and Liz would be making a trip to pick up the traveling hardtop. Then Steve and Donna would come up from Atlanta, Georgia area and take the hardtop to its next destination. We just added a Car Relay from Georgia to Pennsylvania to their plans. It’s nice when a plan comes together.
So much for the NEW car, let’s talk about the classic. I put our 1957 Thunderbird up for sale on the Facebook Market Place. The craziest thing, I had six people responding the first day. I had it sold by the second day. Out with the old and in with the new.
We look forward to visiting with Ron, Liz, Steve and Donna later this month and bringing our new 05 bird home to join our 03 Whisper White and 04 PCR. (Not to mention a few corvettes)

Oops! Our Pennsylvania Governor just issued a statement about travel to almost all southern states and some other areas. If we travel to Tennessee we will need to quarantine for 14 days when we return to Pennsylvania. This is a problem because of other commitments at home.
I called Ron to break the news that we could not come to Tennessee at this time because of the travel restrictions. Without skipping a beat, Ron asked if Virginia was on the travel list and I said no. He informed me that the town of Bristol is half in Tennessee and half in Virginia and that he lives only 15 miles from Bristol. We changed our plans to meet in Bristol, Virginia with a car carrier. Steve and Donna will bring the 05 bird from Georgia to Bristol, Virginia and then they will meet Ron and Liz and pick up the traveling hardtop in Elizabethton, Tennessee and take it on its way.
We want to thank our great TBN friends Steve, Donna, Ron and Liz for all their help making this all possible.

What a great story! Very happy for both of you. These are trying times to stay within the rules. Do me a favor. Wave “Hello” to Blacksburg, VA as you drive past.

Super story, Tom. The only thing that could have made it better is if that beauty was coming to Oklahoma instead of going to Pennsylvania. In general, I'm not that keen on blue cars, but these cars look great in MSB with the blue accent package. If I were to buy another, that combination would be really high on the list - maybe even the top.

As always, TBN friends are the best. Way to go Steve and Donna for helping relay the car and the top - double duty! Kudos also to Ron and Liz for hosting!

Today we met Steve and Donna along with Ron and Liz at the train station in Bristol Virginia and took delivery of a beautiful 2005 medium steel blue thunderbird.
Steve and Dinna brought the car up from Atlanta Georgia area and their plan is to take the traveling white hardtop back to Georgia to its next destination after spending the weekend with Ron and Liz.
We had a long travel day. We left home in Pennsylvania at 5 am and we will get home around 11 pm tonight.

Oh, I see them now after changing to Posts mode instead of Latest Activity mode. I don't understand what some folks do that make their pictures only show in the Posts mode, but that's what happens sometimes.

Nice looking car that's for sure. Congrats, Tom and Louise. I bet there are a lot of CTCI members who think you have committed heresy, selling a baby bird and buying a retro.
