  • By-passing the dual Coolant Control Valve

Just witnessed the one side cool, one side warm, on my 03 which appears to point to the DCCV. Has anyone bypassed this valve so the coolant doesn't enter the heater core or would that just start other issues? Don't need much heat in AZ/

    Thanks

That is a very interesting idea that certainly take care of the actual problem of a failed dual valve assembly.
BUT the climate control module uses input from the cabin temp sensor & the ambient air temp sensor to regulate the ac to the desired or selected cabin temp. To control how cool or cold the ac air feels the occupants is done by mixing hot coolant into the climate control system. This is done by the climate control module controlling the dual control valves. Opening & closing the valves as the selected temp is kept constant in the cabin.

I think by-passing the valve would give you heat all the time.

You could disconnect the hoses that go into the cabin and buy hose to create loops in the engine compartment on the to and from

I think bypassing the DCCV will cause more problems, especially with the DATC module. Changing the DCCV valve is doable by the owner and has been well documented previously on this forum. The part can be found for under $100 on amazon and eBay.

Thanks for the discussion, as an "old" school" guy, if the hot coolant never gets to the heater core, the compressor only has to cool the surrounding air. I agree with Billy that the cause and effect to other components makes it a shaky choice.

Bypassing the dual heater control valve would be like having the A/C at 60 degrees all the time the A/C is on. It is the way the temperature is controlled by our "Jaguar designed" system. Much different (and inferior IMO) than other Ford heating/air conditioning systems. The tolerance is plus or minus 5 degrees for any setting, so you could have it set at 76 and it could be 66, you raise it to 78 and then you have heat! Very non-linear.
