It's not easy for me to write this but...........I had to hang up on the gentleman who runs Midwest Tek. I called him in the spring about repairing my FEM but was dismayed to find that he had bumped his price nearly 300% on or about the new year. After some pleasant conversation though he agreed to give me a break and do the job for $400 to which I agreed but I told him that I don't want to do it now but would rather wait until the weather in New England cooled into autumn. He was fine with that. In today's conversation his tune changed because he didn't
remember our agreement and demanded to know when the spring call occurred...time and date. He claims to record all his calls but wouldn't or couldn't search that far back as it would take too much time,. Now he doesn't know me from, Adam but try as I might to convince him that I'm a 77 year old guy who never cheated a customer once in a long retail career he started with me about his religion, his honor...even asked my religion...why???? Then he told me stories about other people who cheated him......Why?????I'm sorry for the rant but I don't like being called a liar over something like this or anything else for that matter. If the moderator pulls this post I'll understand. It's just I'm very angry and still fuming after his arrogance.hours later. In fact he told me to take my business elsewhere......which I did. Sorry to hear about this, Mitch. Please tell us about the repair shop that you chose to fix your FEM. Good to deal with? Fair pricing? Good repair? I too am pulling the FEM from our '02 this fall and want a proper shop to help me out!

        Thanks,

        Bob(RBIRD)

Please let us know how United Radio turns out. I have heard good things about them on another forum and was keeping them in mind if needed for the other car, so would be good to know if they do good with the T-bird.

This is not an endorsement since I have not used them, but it is always good to have a reliable repair source in mind "just in case".

The Midwest Tek guy is a shark....he fixed my FEM just before the massive price bump and when I asked him to look over my instrument cluster he quoted $400 just to check it out with no guarantee of a fix - so I fixed it myself. I have the FEM he fixed on the shelf as a spare and hope I don't have to deal with anymore. And I'm betting he can fix an FEM in about 20 minutes, after doing hundreds of them he knows exactly which parts causes the dash lights to fail or the power steering to screw up...etc..

He started into a religious treatise on the phone but I cut that off quickly; the fella gives me a hinky vibe...

I talked to United Radio just now and they told me they do not repair FEM's. I talked with the automotive group, they do repair clusters and radios.

There are threads on that "other" retro TBird forum where United Radio has stated on the phone that they fix FEMs and instrument clusters and after some poor soul sent them the component they recanted and shipped it back.... Seems to be a disconnect between what the phone jockeys tell customers and what the bench techs state.

I think the Midwest Tek fella knows he has a "lock" on this niche market and is now charging accordingly...

Here are the contacts my Ford dealer gave me when I was going through the FEM/instrument cluster dance (of course we know now United Radio is out):

Capture.PNG Maybe start calling today in anticipation of getting your FEM shipped back ?

United Radio called me today. They don't fix FEMs. I had already mailed my package to them when I read that. I'll try Eastern next. Mitch
