Good for you, Lee. The CAI will definitely give you some more music.

My Bird has well maintained/documented 130K miles on it and not looking for any issues with the CAI , is this mod a plug and play ?

I don’t have one but I believe so. Many here have done this so I’m sure someone will answer.

Pretty much, I have the Borla Catback and the CAI on my Bird for over 15 years.

Is K&N the only CAI out there ?, thinking on modifying the stock air box and installing a cone air filter

Looking at your 02 CAI , modifying the 04 air box with a cone filter looks like a good possibility for a home made CAI

With the upgrade to the K&N CAI, i also recommend the investment of the SCT handheld programmer, which will give you the ability to update the computer settings to take advantage of the increased airflow. I have a 2003 and it made a big difference.
SCT model is 7015 (Ford). They make different versions of the SCT 7015

You've found one. The whole '04 stock air intake system is in my basement & is yours for a mere $300 + shipping. I replaced stock with a K & N CAI about 7 years ago for about $300. That's where my asking price comes from. As for the CAI -- yes, recommended. You can't go wrong. My only complaint is that there's a drone as I wait at (for instance) a red light. Easy solution: I shift into neutral while waiting & the drone disappears. With practice on the accelerator, I can make my Retro sound pretty much like a Mustang. Rumble, growl, roar. I can make it sound like a large jungle cat. Sound like a small horse? Not really. Like the P-51 fighter? Possible. I dunno. ----Will

I installed the K&N CIA system on my 05. Very easy and defiantly plug and play. One of the things this system does is to smooth out the air flow restrictions that the stock system creates. If you are looking for performance, this would be your best bet (at least from all the reading I did on the topic.) You can get one online for around $350 +/-. Here is how mine looks. Whatever you decide, best of luck with your project. jag cover replaced.jpg
