  • Hardtop Stand

I have purchased a hardtop stand from an 02 owner that sold their car. It works fine except the button that locks the leg in place, up or down, is missing on one leg. The mechanism is still in place so a screw driver or other straight object will lock it in place. Any idea where I might find a replacement cap? My guess is that if available the entire mechanism is the only way to get the cap. Thanks.

Check it to be sure that it didn’t get pushed inside the pipe.

Lots of outdoor patio umbrellas use the same mechanism as do other rod extension devices like swimming pool brushes...
Maybe find a cheap used or worn out one of those and see if there is a fit.

The missing locking button happened to mine, too. It's still inside, just shifted to the side. Use a little WD-40, slide it back (chopsticks, maybe?) and all will be good again.

That’s what I suspect as well. I hate those buttons.

Google “spring button for tubing”. Many available for purchase if you need one. They start at around 89 cents. I would try the local hardware store first to avoid the shipping.

I know it has already been said, but when I got my 'bird one leg of the stand had a bolt through the hole. I took the bolt out and found the spring button still there inside the tube. Just moved it over and fixed! Perhaps yours is the same, too.
