  • Moments Worth Waiting For

New project here... for me at least and might be for you.

This goes back to 2001 for some of us TBN old timers, If you remember this booklet in the picture, Did you ever go thru it? I never really did. Just glanced through it and went back to reading forum posts. Received an extra copy of it over the years and it was within reach of my modem which I have to reset everyday so I read through it today, a very short task. Each set of 2 pages has a photo and some type of thing that makes you anticipate the "things worth waiting for."

My project, to go thru my photos and see if I can find things through the past 18 years of what I have anticipated and make a new booklet for me of those special times.

So... the first anticipation in the book is a photo of an apple on a tree... waiting for the pie that can be made and eaten. I will try to find a similar photo and it might relate to food... or not. It might relate to a color.

So... Here's where you step in. Lets hear about what you have anticipated for in the past, photos if you can or just describe the anticipation. ..and yes, you can bring up your anticipation for your Thunderbird before you bought it... which is why It's in this TBN forum.

Life is a funny, convoluted affair, Dot, but one thing that I really anticipated, in a big way, was getting my driving license. I wonder if kids today have that same feeling.

There are many that do and in our state, Texas, many long for a pick-up truck to drive. My sister who lives in rural Idaho had twins, now having turned 30, one doesn't drive and depends on buses and taxis or friends to drive him places; he even forced himself to learn to ride a bike when he was in his early teens and still doesn't have a drivers license, the other is a car addict and into snow sports.

My son did the same thing and was not happy about his 16th birthday being on a Sunday.
We did get an appointment for 8 am on Monday. He aced the test, written & driving.
The examiner even commented to me after they returned to the station, "You did a good job teaching this one."
I was very proud of him. I still am. He's 44 now and has his own auto repair shop.

To while the time away in anticipation of our Thunderbird arriving, I fashioned a necklace.
This is what I made from fiber optic glass beads, hematite beads, glass seed beads and fresh water pearls along with a Northwest Indian Thunderbird charm and a little "2002" charm.

That's a well balanced, nice looking piece, Dot -and even with a thunderbird! Thanks for sharing the picture.

I’ll go with my wedding day. We had been planning for a looong time. I was anxious about screwing up and embarrassing my bride. Of course things went well and we’re still together after 47 years. Having a good partner in life is the best thing ever.

This photo of the shadow box I built containing my Navy uniform represents to my wife & I our real true beginning. We both looked so forward with huge anticipation to the day I was separated from my ship. Though we were together for two years during my enlistment we waited to be married until I was no longer on 6 month deployments. Next month will be our 54th wedding anniversary marking a incredible life full of joy, sorrow, ups & downs, 2 super wonderful sons & their families, 3 terrific G-Kids who are wonderful adults & 1 who is still a youngster. The people who we have met along the journey and the experiences we have had we of course had no idea would happen. It has been remarkable.
But oh the anticipation to get it all started, it all began with this dress uniform that I wore when departing the USS Yorktown February 1967.

Things Worth Waiting For: I've actually been waiting since October 12, 2020 for my 2021 Mustang Mach E! The wait is killing me but at least I finally got word that my "Build Week" is 5/24/2021 and received my VIN number (3FMTK3SU3MMA28XXX). I hope they keep that date because they have changed many dates for other members of the Mach E Forum in the past by moving the dates back. To help manage the wait I am on several Mustang Mach E forums (Mach E Forum, Mach E Club, two forums on Facebook and the Mustang Club of America - this club was not too welcoming as there are a lot of members who hate the Mach E and that Ford named it a Mustang; things are getting better now). On the Mach E Forum we have a thread for members who are waiting just to vent their frustration and to be "grumpy" about waiting! I visit that thread often. This time Ford is handling the rollout of the new electric Mustang poorly. There is a general lack of communication by Ford and there certainly isn't any "Manage the Wait" program and memorabilia like there was for the 2002 Thunderbird (people who paid $3,000 extra and ordered a First Edition Mach E received a fractal plastic Mustang with their car's VIN number on the base; the rest of us received NADA from Ford). I often criticize Ford over their lack of communication (I've heard from Ford exactly one time; all my information comes from my dealer).

BTW, the shadowbox in the post preceding this reminded me of my shadowbox. My service was 1973 - 1975 (of active duty; 5 years inactive reserve) and I earned the National Defense medal but I'm still very proud of it. The experience was like having a residency in dentistry and prepared me well for Postgraduate studies in Endodontics.

                      Mike,
Our 54th wedding anniversary was last year September 10.
Sounds like we were both in the Navy during the Vietnam War. I enlisted in1962 and served onboard USS Ticonderoga attached to VA-55 and later served aboard USS Bon Homme Richard attached to VA-195. Home base for VA-55 and VA195 was NAS Lemoore California.
Left the Navy in 1966 and moved back to Lincoln NE. Married Kay Bonneau in 1966. Lost Kay in January 2021after 4 long years suffering from Altzheimer's at home.

One of the next few pages in that book is a picture of a plate of chocolate cookies and the anticipation of waiting for the milkman to come so you'd have something to dip one in. For me, it's the aroma of the peanut brittle cooking and knowing in a little while I'll be able to munch on some fresh peanut brittle. Hmm, might have to make some this Easter day.
